I am 20 days post RALP and 12 days ex catheter. Generally I am doing fine. I have gone back to work with limited hours. It's a little taxing physically but good for my brain. There are only so many Law and Order episodes you can watch. I am getting up two to three times a night but from what I've read, that's normal.

I am able to get through the day with a single heavy duty pad but here's my question. The distal end of my urethra (penis) feels kind of sore but also itchy to the point of sometimes being distracting. My urine flow is strong and clear and if there is any burning at all, it is minimal. Have any of you experienced this or is it time to call my Uro?

Hello Scooterdu. I'm just guessing, but the dampness of the pad might be causing some irritation. Just a guess, but I think it's a possibility. Possibly a fungal infection? A quick call to your uro might be in order.

I think you are doing fine,
my 1st few weeks after the catheter removal, sometimes also feel some burning sensation when starting the flow.

I had that happen and, like clocknut, thought dampness or contact with the pad and the soreness could either lead to or cause an infection. I smeared something - probably bacitracin - on the tip to both protect and aid any healing that might be required. Felt better in two days and I have no idea if my treatment or diagnosis were correct. Might just have gotten better on its own.

Keep it dry, keep it clean.
And change your pad more often even if it's not full. (maybe use two smaller ones)
I could probably get through a whole 24 hours with one pad if all that mattered was it being able to absorb all the pee. However that would make it a perfect warm moist place to let bugs grow. So I change my pads to keep things fresh,
just like women have to do when on their periods. :-)

May be worth checking with doc in case you have got "jock itch" or similar, if so plenty of simple creams to make it go away again.

Had same thing about a half inch to an inch in on bottom left side of penis. At times it was very noticeable. Could feel urine pass by the area and get a strange sensation almost like it was being scratched. It felt like a healing area that begins to itch almost, only inside. It eventually went away due to no action In Particular

As the others have said, this is normal, but yes you must keep it dry. Go to the Tena mediums, and maybe use 3 a day. I was so constantly moist that I had to use butt paste, to ward off rashes and infection. Regards Inkhorn

Another possible cause that you might compare against your symptoms is that it may be referred pain from the sutures on your bladder neck. Referred pain is an irritation to a nerve along its run that is perceived where the nerve terminates. Your body gradually attacks the sutures in your anastomosis and dissolves them as the tissues heal. This process takes months sometimes and during that time guys will feel a sort of scratchy feeling in their urethra about half an inch in from the meatus*, when the actual source of the irritation is at the bladder neck.

* Your word for today is "meatus" -- Me.A.tus -- which is the external opening of any passage leading into the body, notably the ears, nose and urogenital bits, depending on how you are equipped.

im a new member here and had my surgery 14 days ago today . I sleep without a pad now for five days , but when I try during the day I notice I spot , but usually in the afternoon after walking a lot and being on my feet . sometimes I fell the wet pad brings on more dripping . my phopia is that I will never get better with the dripping . my surgery was a success and pathology was perfect . its just that you hear these stories about guys that are fine two weeks out , and wonder why not you . am I being silly

You are not being silly but they call you the patient because you need to be. I had my surgery a week before you and I am in the same boat. I am more or less dry at night except I get up at least twice a night to urinate. I also spot during the day. From what I have learned from my friends here is that everyone is on their own timetable but that we are both early on. I know it's a pain and a nuisance but for over 90% of us it will get much better. Be thankful about your path report and remember that we are experiencing this together. Don't feel intimidated about speaking up or asking questions. I have found this forum to be a lifesaver and am grateful to those here willing to share their most private of experiences.
