Immune system after surgery

Did any of you find you were far more susceptible to the common cold and a myriad of other health issues shortly after surgery?

It seems to me to be common sense that as our bodies are trying to recover from the trauma of surgery, radiation or chemo that most of our bodies resources would be focused there.

I've seemingly caught about every single thing that is going around which is unusual for me.

Hoping that whatever heal time is needed to be truly healed is quick so my body can fight all these invaders.

Latest issue of Uro Today includes a study relating to immune system suppression of general anaesthesia during RP. The study looks at weather that immune suppression contributes to cancer recurrence. But I found it interesting since my husband came down with a whopping case of pneumonia 3 days after surgery - it had him in the hospital for 2 weeks.

After my open RP I had low blood pressure (but my blood pressure has always been on the low side of normal) and a low red blood count. Not sure why, my doc said I didn't have any unusual blood loss during surgery. Everything returned to normal within a couple of weeks.

No, I had no immune-system issues whatsoever post-surgery.  I was in excellent health prior to surgery, which may account for that, and luckily remained in excellent health ever since.

I caught a cold about one week after surgery which than morphed into pneumonia -- Dan
