Erection or not?? Happy or Bummed??

I had a robotic prostatectomy on Jan, 6th 2014 My surgeon said I could try and get a erection anytime after the catheter was removed but to please take Viagra when I try. By all account I have a great surgeon from John Hopkins who's specialty is nerve sparing. I was afraid to try right away cause I read a lot of info that said to wait 4-weeks. So today I took half of a 100mg Viagra even though I was told to take a full. My question is I got about half a erection today its about 16 days out should I be happy or bummed cause right now Im feeling bummed.

You should be thrilled, proud, amazed, etc. It took me about 3 months before I got any type of response and 6 months before I had a usable erection. At about exactly one year I was able to achieve an erection without meds and that's pretty much the way it has been since. You are very fortunate to have results happening already. Your doing GREAT! Keep exercising junior and you should recover fairly quick.

By my estimation you are doing fantastic. I was pretty good about following the rehab program and it wasn't until year 3 that I had help-free good usable erections.

So celebrate your progress,

Thanks guys, the good news was cancer was organ confined so I guess it's one thing at a time for now.

50% at 16 days is probably ahead of the curve. Atta boy John. Your post op pathology looks great too.

I was probably about the same, but things have really improved in that department for me
in the last few days. I am very optimistic for Valentines Day (or before) :)

My surgery was one day after yours and had cath removed on the 16th. My Surgeon told me same as yours. But like you I read all the info about waiting 3 to 4 weeks. Thats what Im gonna do. I cant take Viagara for some reason. I tried 50mg one time as an experiment and it really made me flush and just a scary feeling. Anyway I had about 75% erections with catheter still in.(no fun at all) Im hoping that was a good sign in that dept. But the urinary aspect has me a little concerned right now. But from the info I have received from the GREAT guys on this site is that its early and not yet time to be concerned yet. So dont be too disappointed if things arent great right out of the gate. Easier said than done I know. I hope all goes well for you and you have a fast recovery.

Excellent result.
I'd almost say that I expect that it's the sort of result uros would like to see: ie a definite response within a month of surgery.
Even a partial erection is great given bloodvessels, nerves etc are still healing and there will still be a lot of swelling etc inside you.
And even half an erection means that plenty of blood was getting into the erectile tissue and that will help to keep it supplied with "nutrients" to help it stay healthy.
I would be very surprised if you do not show further improvement over time.

keep workinig on your penile rehabilitation - which includes gentle pulling and stretching it ( non-focused party-time in your pants - fleece pants with elastic waists work well with that) as well as focused arousal - with self or with partner/spouse...

... if you don't use it - you lose it...

My surgery was the same day as yours and no response at all so far. I started 5mg of Cialis the day the catheter came out.

I have ordered a VED. At my three month checkup, if I've had no response, I will probably talk to the doc about Trimix. I've seen some numbers that seem to indicate that using the injectables can help with long term recovery.

My wife and I have already found some ways to play around without an erection and I have managed to have an orgasm, just not in the "normal" way.

That sounds pretty good to me. Think what it might be like in a few weeks with a full 100mg dose?

Yes, you should be amazed. Do note that according to Dr. Mulhall (links below), men who've had RALP generally have progressively worse ED during the first 3 months and then recovery begins from there.

I'm almost 10 months post-RALP, and only get a so-so outcome with Viagra, so I use bimix injections for ED rehab and wife rehab :)

50% that soon should be an uplifting sign to you (no pun intended). I wouldn't over push the exercise part until you are properly healed up, you just went through a difficult and complex surgery. I had full errections while still on the catheter, so I knew I was in that lucky few club from the start, and I did not have nerve sparing surgery.
