Both Trimix and Pills work for me. After almost five years I find I prefer Trimix over the pills because, for me, Trimix is more spontaneous (five minutes instead of 30 to 60 minutes) and I have no side effects with Trimix. All of the pills either give me a back ache, sniffles or a sluggish feeling. I do like the pills better than Trimix for travel.
Anybody else have a preference for Trimix over Pills?

I also prefer trimix over pills....longer lasting erection after climax, it is quick and pretty cheap....
Trimix has my vote all the way !!!!

By "work," I assume you mean to achieve an erection. Trimix does that for me but pills (Levitra and now generic sildenafil) do not. Still, I take the pills just to keep blood flowing to that area in case they, after more than 2 years, continue to facilitate healing. I also still use a VED to keep the tissue stretched out to normal erection size.

Hey Beothall (Mike),
I've a question. How long does your doctor recommend you take the pills to keep the blood flowing? Forever?
My uro did not give me a good answer to this question when I asked. Pretty much left it up to me. After three plus years I stopped taking the pills daily. Thought I'd see if there was any difference. It's been a year now and I have not noticed any difference in size, ability to get an erection, etc.
Currently, I do not plan to restart taking the pills daily (I will use them at full strength when I do not use Trimix); however, I would restart them and take them daily forever if I can figure out a reason to do so. Like I say my uro has been no help and I was hoping your uro might have shed some light on how long the pills should be taken daily. Thanks for any input you may have concerning this.

My husband is a patient of Dr. John Mulhall, who wrote "Saving Your Sex Life: A Guide for Men With Prostate Cancer". Dr. Mulhall keeps his patients on low dose daily Viagra (or a similar drug) for one year. At one year after surgery my husband was taken off of daily Viagra because Dr. Mulhall found that it did not add value after that point. My husband's current instructions (15 months out) are to take a a full dose of Viagra once a month and try for an erection.
My husband still injects with trimix twice a week as part of the rehab program Dr. Mulhall has him on. At my husband's last visit Dr. Mulhall said that he wants my husband to continue to inject until he can get an erection without injecting (but with Viagra). I don't know if that will happen, but that is the plan.

I'm 10 months post-surgery. I get a so-so erection with pills and a very good erection with bimix. So, I alternate between the two, and look forward to continued improvement so I can stop injects and switch t only using pills (and eventually no meds at all, I hope).

Hey Bluebird,
Thank you for the information.
Based on what Dr. Mulhall, told you and your husband, it appears that I took the low dose PDE5s a bit (3 years!) too long. This question had been bothering me for a long time, so I really appreciate your input.
Thanks.

RCS, I've never asked my uro how long I should use the pills for blood flow. I haven't because maybe I'm a bit afraid of his answer ("if you're taking them for blood flow, then stop because they aren't doing you any good this far out from your surgery."). Some of the other responses on this thread suggest that's likely the case. It hasn't been an issue for me because the pills are relatively inexpensive and I figure there's no harm done in taking them. But I had set a timetable for myself to stop at three years out if they weren't giving me an erection.
I've wondered why the trimix works for me but the pills don't. Obviously the two meds work in different ways and my plumbing isn't set up to respond to the pills. I was hoping some healing was still going on because the amount of trimix I need to get a firm erection has dropped in the past four months from 95 units to 25 units. I suppose the improvement will stop somewhere but I haven't hit that point yet.

I sort of thought that my husband should continue to take the daily low dose Viagra, with the reasoning that it probably was doing no harm and maybe might help a little. The low dose Viagra seemed to trigger nocturnal erections. My husband would take his Viagra at night, lie down in bed to read a book before going to sleep, and get a spontaneous partial erection while reading. However, my husband follows Dr. Mulhall's program to the letter. Dr. Mulhall wants my husband to take a full dose of Viagra once a month and try for an erection as a report card to see where he is in his recovery. He gets about a 30% erection with a full dose of Viagra and stimulation.
My husband initially had to use 75 units of super trimix (equal to approximately 150 units of regular trimix). He now uses 9 units of regular trimix and it works perfectly. We asked Dr. Mulhall if being able to reduce the amount of trimix needed is a sign of healing and he said yes.

Bluebird, sometimes I take enough generic sildenafil to equal a full dose of Viagra just to see what happens but sadly nothing does. I don't get even a slight swelling. There is however always hope.
I'm glad to hear of your husband's success in reducing his trimix dosage and still getting satisfactory results. I took my improvement as a sign of continued healing and am pleased that you got confirmation that this is indeed true!

I definitely agree that the drop in units required relates to healing. I feel that as a guy heals some of his natural response kicks in and less Trimix/PDE5 is required. At about 2 years the PDE5s started working for me and Trimix was at about 3 units. Saw slow improvement after that but nothing noticeable for some time now.

I had my first TriMix injection this morning. It's kind of strange how the last six months have gone. I no longer flinch at all or think twice when I'm in a room with two nurses and one of them tells me to drop my pants. This morning, one of the nurses was showing the other how to do a TriMix injection. She grabbed onto my manhood, put it into the correct position and then had me do the shot myself. It's just normal to have to drop my pants for any medical professional these days, I guess.
Very little pain from the tiny 31g needle and with a small dose (0.1 ml) I got enough response that I was wishing my wife was with me.
I've got a script written that's good for the next year, and they suggested I use it every other day or so until I don't need it any more. We'll see what my wife thinks of those instructions. When I remind her how much cheaper it is than Cialis, I hope that gets her attention.
