I had the robotic surgery this is day 5 and the incision site is sore is there any type of cream etc that you can put on the sites? Discharge directions mentioned nothing but getting a lot of info from this site that I didn't know. Any thoughts

Do not put anything on the incisions... and no direct sunlight if you live anywhere warm. about the only thing you should be doing is letting soap and water run over them and or a bottle of the hospital antiseptic.

Day 5? You're not too far from feeling a lot better.

Let's see. I was told to keep them dry and not to mess with them. I was also told that the plastic film over the dressings was waterproof and I wouldn't have to worry about them in a quick shower. As it turned out the dressing over my navel was in fact watertight on three sides and only leaked at the top. I came out of the shower with a pouch full of water stuck to my stomach.

Thanks for the opportunity to reminisce, but different surgeons have different notions about care of the incisions. Mine would definitely tell you to keep it covered with a clean, dry dressing and otherwise not mess with it. You should call your surgeon's office and ask.

Dry and covered, not to be immersed in water (such as a bath or hot tub) until completely healed. Those were my instructions. They gave me waterproof patches to put over the bandages for my showers. If you do wash them, only pat with a soft washcloth, then rinse by letting water run down over them. No direct pressure from a water source.

The soreness could be from much deeper in the incision, so topical pain meds may not be of any use.

I did have one "accident". While out walking a neighbor's dog jumped up and put a paw partway through the camera incision. Got a trip to the doc out of that one.

Welcome to the other side!

The first 2 weeks it was difficult to wear pants that pressed to hard against the incisions. I wore draw string pants very loosely fitting that I bought at Old Navy for about $10 each. That really helped.

I didn't put anything on my incisions and they've all disappeared except one, just above my navel ... and I'm 5.5 years post-op. Best of luck with your recovery.

Same old navy fleece pants for me. Bought a stack of them on sale, since I couldn't get up & down the stairs to the washer.

A trick early on was to wear a t-shirt tucked in to cut down on friction.

I wore my basketball pants for 2 weeks until the rubber snake was pulled.

Best thing for your incision is what the guys have been telling you. Keep it basically dry and no creams.

The worst is over. You're on the other side now. Better days ahead for you.

My URO used something like super glue shocked

It was waterproof and eventually wore off by itself.

I had open RP las September and the 7 inch single incision never caused any pain unless I coughed to bring up phlegm for the first day or two. I wore gym pants until the catheter was removed 13 days later just because I didn't feel like socializing with my catheter trailing behind me (LOL). I used the treadmill frequently during those fun days. Obviously I have a nice scar like a C Section...my red badge of courage. I also have a seven inch scar from shoulder replacement surgery two weeks ago.

Prayfirst,

You say the incision site is sore. Is there any swelling, redness, or discharge?

If there is you might have an infection and you might consider calling you surgeon and describing the situation. He could prescribe an antibiotic.

The one on my lower right side didn't heal right. Now I have a purple spot about as big as a half dollar and it'll itch like hell sometimes. Otherwise, no problems.
