PCa Playlists

A while back, member Big Mac put together his PCa-inspired song list and many of us made suggestions for things to include. There were lots of good suggestions and everyone was very polite about mine, a kindness which I appreciate. He thanked everyone for their suggestions and listed his final selections (he even had a Miss Congeniality section for my suggestions) and declared the event over.

My brain is a bit like a freight train -- slow and full of random stuff that I can't get at, but it gets there sooner or later. But also like a freight train, the brakes are crap. Just because the event was over didn't mean that I could stop. I now have a list of 125 extra suggestions, in various categories.

I won't publish my list here. Some of the entries have titles that would stretch the rules a bit on our PG-rated site. They also have words that HealingWell's robotic Bowdlerizer would asterisk over, not that I always give a danm.

I'll be glad to email the list to anyone who wants to see it.

Since most of the songs are available on YouTube (often in several versions) it occurred to me that it might be interesting to put together some YouTube playlists that speak to various aspects of our shared situation. So far I've done one of them although others can be seen down the track of my unstoppable, unsteerable brain. The first one is on called "ADT Lullabies" and it contains video clips of 16 songs.

BEFORE YOU CLICK THAT LINK I should warn you that I have a few pretty dark crayons in my box. The selections are eclectic (bordering on schizophrenic) and mostly up tempo and upbeat, but a few of them are going to leave a mark.

I should also mention a few more things:

• I have quite a bit of fun with our fears that the hormones will effeminize us and I draw on certain gay stereotypes. I hope I haven't stepped on any dainty toes.
• Fred Murts on YouTube is another of my online aliases.
• If anyone wants to create a playlist but doesn't want to deal with issues of the anonymity, Fred will be glad to create the list for you.
• Some of the videos won't play on an iPad.
• I didn't upload any of these songs, my playlist just strings them together.
• In some cases neither the songwriters, the performers, nor those who uploaded the videos will necessarily approve of the context in which I have placed their work.

That's the second time you have thanked me for pointing out the Ray Stevens song to you, and I am so glad you enjoyed it. The only thing is... it wasn't me that suggested it. It was Jerry Delaware.

Thanks for putting that ADT Lullaby list together. That is one eclectic bunch of selections!

You have music taste more wide-ranging than mine, and that's saying something. I sure don't see TMBG referenced by many folks!

What is a "playlist"? Trying to get past this one.

Thanks for the explanation. Have heard my kids talk that term, didn't know what they meant. Kind of musically-challenged person. I only listen to SAT radio in my car, it has a single CD player that I have never even used before. Never really had any digital music device in my life, do have a Windows Phone - but never thought of listening to music on it. Same with my new Kindle Fire HDX, mostly use it for movies and internet access.

I am amazed at how many HW folks are really into music, either listening or playing instruments or both. I grew up in a pretty music-less home. My father only let us listen to news-only stations growing up in his car, perhaps why I am still such a news junky.

I do admire the music talents of others though.

Interesting list Peter. I think putting songs under your play list is a safe way go. Here is my take on direct linking of videos. I,like others posted direct links to some videos in Big Macs list awhile back. Unfortunately some videos are owned by large production companies regardless of who uploaded it. I was very upset that the company that owned one of my favorites(Fremantle International) pulled the video after I linked it here. There are other versions but that particular version (my favorite) is gone forever. They must be worried that the warriors on a cancer forum will somehow profit from them. How sad.

All things being equal I tried to link to videos that had been up for a long time and had a fair number of views. It seems like if the copyright owner is going to issue a cease and desist they would probably do it in the first couple of years or the first couple of hundred thousand views.

Yes, I can see how that would make a good post-op walking around song... for a really young guy. It's pretty unrelenting and I worry that old farts like me might have parts fall off trying to keep up to tempo.

I have not seen the list, but I sure hope it includes something by The Little Willies.
