has anyone experienced a loss of the sense of taste with hormone treatment?i noticed about a week after my second hormone shot a difference in the way different things taste.has anyone else found any sense of loss?

I have noticed that wine doesn't taste as good as it used to and throws me for a bigger loop than before. I have also noticed that certain smells, like the smell of people's hair, are noticeable that were not before.
Weird.

Wine? Not sure that my taste is changed. Still buy the same labels, enjoy just the same.

But smell? I had not thought of that. I do notice more of the perfumes. Could be estrogen taking over. The ladies have always noticed changes that were nothing to me. I did catch the aroma of a good-looking woman the other night, but no visceral reaction.

I guess I could have gone without realizing that. There is something to being a hermit. What you don't know, you can't question.

The more common problem with Lupron is weight gain.

Some of the later drugs after Lupron fails, cause appetite suppression and weight loss.

my hormone therapy is a drug named trelstar, i think its a generic brand.still,its expensive.

Trelstar is very similar to Lupron. I guess it's possible it has different side effects, but not likely.

I've been on Trelstar for a year and a half now (plus bicalutamide -- generic for Casodex -- and Avodart). My first LHRH agonist shot was real Lupron but it costs even more than the Trelstar does and my insurance balked at paying for any Lupron after the first so I switched.

Haven't noticed any difference in taste. It seems unlikely that the Trelstar makes anything taste worse considering how much weight I have gained while taking it.

I have noticed that my wife's hair has a smell which I didn't before. It's probably because, previously, when I got close enough to smell her hair my mind was on other things...

Weight gain is a HUGE consideration. I'm thinking of getting an elliptical trainer. Starting out slow. Maybe a puff of pot.

My understanding is that the weight gain can be reduced or even eliminated by a disciplined diet and exercise regimen.

I am assured of that by my medical staff. :) Could it be true?

While I was on my Lupron treatment , I ate 1000 cal per day and walked 20 min daily and lost approximately 85 lbs and now am at a more normal weight .( I was way too heavy and when they told I would gain weight , I decided to go on strict diet for about 1 1/2 years.) James
