Home from surgery

Released from Hospital this afternoon. Surgeon was pleased with how things went. Surgery was 1/2 longer than expected do to camera issue at start. Aggressive nerve spared on Left side, right side at apex was cut a little wider cause of PNI. Man was there a lot of gas. still trying to walk it off. I was sitting in my room chair when Dr came for morning rounds. Big smile on his face when he saw me. Been putting away the fluids and walking around house and I am starting to feel better. Monday the cath will come out. I appreciate everyone's input prior to surgery concerning prep and post op care. Can shower Thursday and will start walking around the block. Thanks again !

Great to see how upbeat you are.

I found the showering with cath part complicated but got through it. Losing the cath was a treat.

Good time to catch up on shows. I got a bunch of pay per view and tv series at your stage. A good time to reflect too as it was an emotionally charged and complicated time.

Congrats coming home. The first post-surgery shower is a bit tricky with the cath bag, but I felt so much better ("human") after that shower to get all the various forms of goop off of my body.

Rest, walk, drink, repeat :)

Sounds like you are doing great. Remember to walk a lot and recline a lot. Walking is good for you but too much time on your feet will make things swell. (That's "swell" in the sense of "swelling" not in the sense of "nifty or wonderful".)

Don't forget to take some high-absorbancy pee-pants (Depends, for instance) with you when you go to get the catheter out. Most guys leak at first, some of them quite a bit.

I bought some of those temporary hooks that stick to the wall and peal off later to use on the shower wall to hang the catheter on when I took a shower. I stayed in a hotel room near the hospital until the catheter was removed so I couldn't mess up their tile bath tub walls.
It worked great and came right off. Be sure they are made by 3M, the ones that Walmart carry suck!

Ditto on the stool softeners. Good luck with your pathology report.

Just completed first walk around our block. Feeling good so far. Stomach is sore but I an=m getting more flexible as time goes on. Gas is starting to dissipate which helps with comfort. I think the gas has been the worst after affect so far. I was given stool softeners at hospital but noting for home. I will go to my old reliable of raisins, apple juice and Fig Newtons and I will be pooping up a storm in no time.

Getting some good Grand daughter time watching Winnie the Pooh while I rest & recuperate.
