A hammer, a chisel and a saw.

I broke a bone in my wrist from a fall while playing badminton at the gym.
The surgery to repair the break took as long as the surgery to remove my cancerous prostate, about 3 hours.

After opening my wrist like fileting a fish, the surgeon sawed the broken scaphoid bone to smooth both sides of the break, then chiseled out a section of my radius bone to wedge the two sections of bone together, which were secured the placement of a permanent screw and a temporary pin.

Compared to an open prostatectomy the recovery from the hammering, sawing and chiseling was significantly more painful and took a lot more painkillers to manage than the prostate removal.

I'm in a cast, and will be for two to three months. No lifting, pulling or pushing with that arm ( thankfully my nondominant). Ironically, this the first time I've ever broken a bone.

my first thought was, "That carpentry, not surgery."

Broken bones are very painful. I broke a finger once and passed out from the pain. Yes, just finger.

Take care of that arm.

Dear Tim, This is such a painful thing to read. Rest up and get well soon! Keep it elevated. Sound as though it will mend up with the surgery but take good care. I guess sport is out for a while now. Take it easy!
