It's 430. I had a 2 o'clock appointment today to receive an infusion for my bones. I've been sitting in this chair for two and half hours. They brought the IV bag out and hung it up. I kept waiting for somebody to come by and hook it up. Nobody ever did. There's one other patient in room. There are three medical assistants and registered nurse on staff. I'm sitting in a corner alone nobody came by to hook up the I. v. Until I called out across the room to ask when it was going to be done. What should have taken an hour and a half is now dragging into the three hour mark. I'm just pissed. My employer pays Kaiser Permanente $20,000 a year for my health insurance so I can be sat in the corner and ignored. Okay, maybe I did work graveyard last night, maybe I only had four hours sleep, and maybe I'm simply tired and grouchy, but there is no excuse for this. The best part of my day is being spent with an IV in my arm. And nothing going into it. I really needed to vent on this one I hope you all understand

Did they give you any excuse for the delay, or was it simple ineptness? Sorry that this happened. Ask them for compensation for your lost time and see what happens.
Take care.

Tim they simply forgot to hook it up and walked away and left me here for 45 minutes. I swear some days when I'm dealing with Kaiser Permanente I feel no better than a cow being herded through the feedlots on the way to the slaughter

Incredible. Would expect you would have the A team for the infusions. Hope your evening is better.

Todd- I am so sorry that you are having to deal with that! I would definitely file a complaint or make a phone call to let some of the higher ups know. That should not be tolerated at all and someone needs to correct such an error in care. If you don't say something then next week it could be the 85 year old man who is just wanting to get out of there to visit his wife in the nursing home before it gets too dark for him to drive...

Vent away - that is a very bad way to be treated. If they send a survey card out, be sure to give them bad marks.

Sorry Todd, you should have started singing that would have gotten their attention.
No excuse for that!

First, your vent is well justified, vent away.
Second, every person I have ever met in real life that had to deal with Kaiser, hates them with a passion. Realize that you may not have any alternative at this point, but you deserve better than that.
Third, as others have suggested, I would complain the hades out of this, so it never happens again, no acceptable excuse on their end. Period.
Sorry it ruined your day.

Todd, I can relate! The same thing happened to me with Zometa several months ago. I was in the middle of other chemo treatments and the infusion was on my day off. You said it well "the best part of your day being spent with an IV in your arm and nothing going into it"!!
They staff was singing Christmas carols and trying to remember all the correct words to Frosty while I sat heating up so much that Frosty wouldn't have lasted a minute near me. I had to say something to get their attention. To top it off, they couldn't get the IV in and had to switch to a different nurse after beating the hell out of the vein they were trying to intrude.
Sorry you had to waste the day. Hope to see you in September!

Todd,
I have had similar situations, but none were happy or accepted.
My uro is dropping administration of even the simplest of HT/Chemo, so I'll be at "Camp Chemo" at our local cancer center a lot more in the future.
Vent away.

You should vent. That just isn't right. Sorry that happened to you.

It's so frustrating when that happens. We try to be a good sport about
it and tell ourselves that they're busy, but when they just plain forget is really disheartening. You have good reason to be upset. Time is precious to all of us. Hope you feel better.

I remember many years ago I used to give plasma and made about
$20 to $25 a week. Well one day I laid in the chair waiting and waiting for the nurse or phlebotomists to come and start the IV. Well, after about
30 to 40 minutes I decide hell with it and scrubbed down the inside of my elbow and started the IV and started the procedure. After about
5 or 10 minutes the nurse came up complaining that somebody didn't finish the paperwork and that is when I told her what I did. She wasn't happy, but then I told her it was rocket science.
The few times after that I was treated first class and very promptly.
ps, I had no medical training other then watching them previously.

Todd,
None of us would put up with this lack of service at a restaurant! We're the patrons, and deserve better service than this. Complain away, loudly and repeatedly, to customer service.
