2014 PCRI Conference in Los Angeles ~ Great to see Before Treatment and/or After.

The Prostate Cancer Research Institute (PCRI) will be hosting it's annual event on September 5 thru 7. I cannot emphasize enough that this is the best patient facing conference in America. All areas of treatment are discussed and you get a Q&A opportunity with all of the speakers. If you are new to prostate cancer this conference will answer a lot of questions about treatment options and future options. If you are a low risk patient, you likely have time to wait until after this event before pulling any triggers. If you are an advanced patient you will definitely benefit from this three day event right by Los Angeles International Airport (LAX). This will be my 6th event here.
Be sure to visit the Prostate Cancer Advocates Forum booth at that event. I founded the site and we are getting ready to launch monthly webinars and have direct access to some of the doctors listed below. This is an awesome event and many of the nations top advocates and physicians are in attendance. But this is a patient facing annual event. I've been to a lot of prostate cancer events and again this one is tops.

SuperMax, yes I plan to attend.

Seem to be a ton of sessions on Immunotherapy and on radiation this year and that topic is of interest for me to leverage the so called "abscopal effect" by doing Provenge concurrent with radiation.

I don't plan to start the actual radiation until October so that I can also attend GFMPH In Rochester the last week of September.

Even though PCRI also instituted a guests attend free policy, my spouse Karen is not attending since we were on the road the whole month of June in San Jose CA and whole month of July in Chicago spoiling grand kids plus she wants to go to GFMPH in Rochester.

I am not sure what constitutes a "guest". The cost was $60 when I registered early but now is up to $120. Since Karen is not attending, I may be able to accommodate someone from HW as my guest.

Not sure how long the promotion lasts but LAX Marriott had rooms at $100 per night.

I'll definitely stop by your booth TC.

Your post reminded me I still need to log in to pay the $60 for the gala meal Saturday night. I'll probably pass of the other excursions to Hollywood Magic Castle and Peterson Automotive Museum, In fact I cannot attend the latter as I have to leave early Sunday to catch my flight since Monday is my spouse Karen's birthday.

I have one PSA increase from <0.04 in July to =0.04 Aug 12. If I get the second one on Aug 26, I may come in Thursday to see Dr. Turner an associate of Scholz and Lam at Prostate Oncology. If not, I can catch an early flight out of Tampa and be there in time for Friday sessions.

Jim I look forward to seeing you again. The hotel promotion is probably no longer available. I spoke to Jan Manarite and she said it was expiring last week. But give it a shot. I have family in the area in Laguna so I intend to stay with them. It's a bit of a drive for each day but then so is the 4 hour drive down there. But this is my fifth PCRI and I enjoy going when I can. It is a really good event for survivors and advocates. You'll get to meet Allen too. He'll be helping me at the booth.

Nothing cheap in Marina del Rey. I was not impressed with the Doubletree, looks like Hilton purchased another hotel and relabeled it. for example no microwave in the room.

Tony, I already have the $100 rate at LAX Marriott locked in. I also had the pleasure of meeting Jan when she moderated a PCA session in Chicago last month while I was there spoiling grand kids.

Not only have I met Tall Allen before, he was instrumental in teaching me about SBRT for high risk and Provenge for abscopal effect. He even attended with me my session with Dr Chris King at UCLA. Great PCa advocate. In fact I even nominated him for the PCRI Harry pinchot award.

Allen I know it has taken a long time to get consensus, but have not given up on doing the SBRT at UCLA. Have one more appointment locally to see if Dr. Rao who is very close by and has been in business for 30 years does high risk SBRT/Cyberknife. If he does not, will likely schedule my 2 weeks of SBRT at Westwood campus sometime in October, hopefully after I have qualified for Provenge, and definitely after GFMPH in Rochester so as to not miss that.

The 2 weeks SBRT versus 8 weeks of IMRT/IGRT is just too much to pass up, even if they zap the hell out of me every other day. The other big plus as far as I am concerned is that even 7 Gy for 5 fractions is less than half the total radiation of 79.2 Gy with IMRT/IGRT, so can take 2 tries if it comes to that.

My friend Diominic screen name GL8NoMets on Inspire.com posted this. He's obviously much better with a smart phone than I am.

I finally broke down and upgraded from flip phone this week after the Dollar Rent A Car at LAX advertised $17 per day and then whacked me for additional $21 per day for GPS. $88 for a Samsung 4G Mega pays for itself in one trip of 4 days.

My first PCRI and well worth it. Amen to good to seeing Tony, Tall Allen and so many others.

Do you know when there will be a disk containing the events?

I didn't make it this year, but I might be interested in getting the disk. In fact, I will discuss it with our local Cancer Services (buying the disk for their use at support group meetings)
