Peyronies and RALP

I believe it is the use of trimix that is bringing on the Peyronies not the surgery itself. That seems to be the common thread with guys that have Peyronies, like yourself.

I have no problem myself but I didn't use trimix.

I believe that there is more then one factor contributing to Peyronies disease following a RP. The use of a VED with constriction band, the lack of natural nocturnal erections and the injection of trimix/bimix. Any of these could weaken or injury the penis, making Peyronies disease more likely.

Bigal – I’ve never heard of any link between Peyronies and the use of Trimix or injections. It is believed that repetitive minor traumas to the penis cause small cracks in the erection chamber (tunica). These cracks lead to scar formation which results in decreased stretch towards the side of the scar which causes the curvature. Dr. John Mulhall says there is no evidence that shows scarring occurs from injection therapy as long as you switch sides each time and don’t inject more than 3 times a week. In fact, one of the treatments for Peyronies is an injection therapy.

Studies show Peyronies occurs in 3% to 9% of the male population. The majority of men with Peyronies have not had RP, but 15% of men who have had a RP develop Peyronies. It is likely that genetics is a factor, because there is a much higher incidence of Peyronies in Caucasians than in African-Americans and it is extremely rare in Asians.

As for me, I used Trimix for 20 months. I’m now 3 years out from my RP and I have not developed Peyronies.

But with all this said - the condition is poorly understood and the cause is unclear.

As with all forums, they attract those that DO have problems (such as Peyronies) and those that do not have it just carry on with life. So that will always skew the casual review of any entries.

But in support of the silent majority I add my own entry here that after 3 years and around 600+ shots (mostly Trimix) things are perfectly fine and straight. That said I think I detect some toughening of the tunica in some of my favorite shot spots -- causing me to seek alternate spots. But no bending from that.

One other thing I have found though is not all syringes are made equal. I have a batch of MedInt 31g syringes that from the start were less sharp/less sturdy and more prone to bend than the BD line of syringes I had used up until the switch (but had trouble finding more of the right size). Soooo just have to finish using up the rest of the 500 then will switch back!!

Good to hear that people have been doing fine with the trimix. It just seems so apparent to me that the injections caused the Peyronies. My Uro just showed me how to stick the needle in but never said anything about moving it from side to side. The URO never really told me anything other then inject it. Well it worked real well for awhile then whammmm nasty case of PD. I never had a problem before or any hint of any problem at all. So something caused the severe PD -- the RALP or the Trimix.

I've read enough replies on this forum, & experienced enough from the TRIMIX to believe that there is association between Peyronies & Trimix & RP.

There's something common to all of us physically that were prone to PD from Trimix..

I had my URO take me off Trimix although it gave me better erections. The new prescription is satisfactory without any PD.

It sure is disappointing that Mulhall's study(2nd link) did not specifically look at whether or not injections are a risk factor. But, they did say "but post-op erectile function was not a predictor of PD development." I suppose all injectors fall into that group, so maybe we can guess something from that? Still, I'm thinking that even if you looked at injecting folks and found that group had a slightly or greater increased risk, but then you included them in the much greater population of post-op ED sufferers(those who do nothing, who use urethral suppositories, pumps only, or pills), that an increased injection risk might get watered down to not significant? Anyway, they missed a good chance to spell that out for us.
