11 Months out from my BT with 140 seeds implanted:

Prostate 55 grams @ diagnosis.

PSA @ diagnosis- 3.6

PSA @ 3 months post BT- 6.2

PSA @ 6 months post BT- 3.9

Today- PSA- 5.3

My URO and RO want to see what the numbers look like in 3 months time.

DRE and ultrasound today- Prostate looked and felt normal

I know I may not hit nadir for another 12-15 months and am aware of the Post BT PSA "bump"

Has anybody else experienced this much PSA jumping around after BT in the 1st year?

Hi 1811, and I see why you are confused. Normally you would have expected your PSA to be significantly lower by now and any "jumping around" to be at lower levels. I am totally speculating but perhaps this has something to do with the size of your prostate and the number of seeds planted. Quite frequently someone with your large prostate size would have it "shrunk" by HT prior to the seed implantation...as a rough comparison, I had a prostate 1/2 your size and 73 seeds planted. Have you discussed this possibility with your docs?

Also, what about some sort of infection...has that been ruled out?

In any case with a confirmed G6 diagnosis it is still unlikely that the cancer is spreading but I think fairly frequent testing is in order.

Jim,

I had the option before BT to get a shot of Lupron to start killing the cancer and reduce the size

of my prostate-

I chose not to go this route as I did not want the Lupron side effects on top of the radiation

side effects.

Based on the ultrasound yesterday, my prostate has shrunk and has flattened a bit-

My urine flow is actually much stronger since the BT procedure, which the MD's and I

take as a positive sign.

I will get my PSA retested in September and see where the numbers are-

If the PSA is higher, I will get a PET/Bone scan in order to rule issues in or out.
