I think it's just so different for everyone. My doc asked me to wait at least 4 weeks before I skied (I'm an instructor), and to go by feel. I was doing very light weight work in the gym by 3 weeks, skiing by 4 weeks, training hard by 8 weeks (including core work), and I finally felt fairly normal at about 11 weeks. I went into the surgery with almost 30 years of very consistent training and competing - triathlons, road racing, trail ultra marathons, skiing, powerlifting and CrossFit.
At 6 months, my power lifts are still lagging a bit, but I'm back to per-surgery fitness, but not quite back to pre-surgery weight.
