26 months in 0 club but now PSA's going up

Well, I had 26 months after RALP with undetectable PSA's. In March 14 it went to 0.11, June 0.21 and July 0.23 so it looks like the beast has returned (I am a Gleason 9). I had no capsule involvement, lymph notes removed with no involvement, seminal vesicles removed with no involvement so I thought thinks were looking pretty good until March. Any thoughts about combining IMRT with HRT? There seems to be a lot of controversy with the combination as usually systemic rather than local. I had the nodes and vesicles removed so I would have thought that would have helped. Anyway, would appreciate any input from other 8's and 9's with similar results. Is it to early for HRT and what about RT along with it or should I wait a bit?

Sorry about the rise in psa. I known how upsetting that can be and your stats from surgery looked great. It took me 15 months to be detectable before a rise so you got about a year more than me, but I had radiation as well.

You have a lot of options to counter this. I think I would get fresh scans and perhaps some of the new, more sensitive scans...then radiate the heck out of...probably with HT...but that's me... I'm a younger and need to be ultra aggressive...

Sorry to hear you've had recurrance. With your path I'm sure you're shocked. This stuff sucks big time! As you can see from my signature, I had worse path than you and I'm having ADT and SRT to try to nail it after recurrance. Gleason 9 is a ***** and needs to have all guns focused on it. Good luck!

Sorry about the rise in your PSA. You still have a lot of weapons in your arsenal to fight with. I'm sure RT and HT are your next step.

Jerry (Redwing): Sounds like a good study. The Jerry Theory. I've read that most G9, Jerrys have hands with 5 fingers.

This is everyone's biggest fear. I haven't got anything to add to what has already been said above, but wanted to wish you well and hope that you keep posting progress reports.

Sorry to hear about that. From everything I have read, SRT and HRT gives a higher probabilty of a better outcome.

Sorry about the sudden movement. G9's are a b*tch. I would at least hit it with RT quickly. Not sure a shot of Lupron would hurt, but it makes the status a bit confusing. If your PSA goes down, what did it, the RT or the HT ?

I did RT when my PSA hit .06, after being <.01.for 2 years. Still trying to decide if it did anything. Dropped to .02, then climbed up to .08, then back to .06. Will get PSA results next week to see if downward trend continues.

I like the ultra sensitive test because I could spot a trend sooner. I have had them every 3 months since surgery.

Good luck to you. Keep in touch and let us know how it is going. Don't be afraid of getting a second opinion either. Might not hurt to see a radiation guy now, and be ready to go when you decide it is time.

Hello from another G9 who just went detectable after 33 months. But my name isn't Jerry, LOL! With your post op stats, I would have thought you were out of the woods. I have just started researching my options also and will be watching your progress since we are similar. Protocol seems to dictate that we would need to start with NAHT and then SRT. The big question is how much and how long on ADT? Here is a thread I am watching that might be of some interest to you.

I just got my surprise a 2 days ago. Undetectable to .034 in 90 days. I bookmarked a thread several years ago about cancer fighting supplements and diet and plan to start that right away before my next psa next month.

We seem to have a lot of company and I am sure we will figure out our own best treatment plan as we seek to become undetectable again.

Hey friend, long time no hear. Yep, this G9 stuff is a real minefield. Sorry to hear about your change in status. Wishing you the best in your next step. Mos likely RT I would think, but there are more and more options these days.

Keep us informed if you find the magic bullet. Maybe we'll see you in Rochester this year. Hint, hint.
