Ken, as long as your PVR (post void residual) is less than 200cc and you are not straining to pee, or have the feeling you are peeing razor blades, or only able to pee very small amounts, I wouldn't worry about getting up at night.
Thanks for the post, Bob. I have no idea on the 200 cc, but feel almost drained.
I have put up with this for 20 years, short hike to the bathroom and right back to sleep thankfully.
I am one of those who will do almost anything to avoid surgery.
Several years ago when I thought it was getting so bad I would have to have surgery, I read somewhere about
prostate massage helping. Bought some gloves, and while my wife was initially reluctant figured that giving it a try was better than surgery. Besides, with gloves and lube just not that big a deal.
Mentioned it to one of my Dr's who does Integrative Medicine and he said that is how it used to be handled back in the presurgical era. Said he could sell me a massager specifically for that if I wanted. Had a handout on it.
I even leave several gloves in my suitcase in case they are needed when we are out of town. Sitting in the car for hours tends to make it worse.
Might not work for everybody, but works great for me. Jogging and riding my bike helps get things moving, also.
Thought I would make the post that there are potential alternatives to TURP.
