Disappointed in my doctor's office portal

Mel, John's MD uses a patient portal. He usually gets an email about 24-36 hours after the office visit telling him to log on to the portal to view his results. The doctor actually types comments on the lab report about the results. This includes his PSA test.

I had the same problem with my new PCP. I got a call from his assistant 8 days after my last PSA test saying ,"your PSA is in the normal range." I read him the riot act, perhaps not so patiently explaining that I and my specialists know more about what PSA means or doesn't mean for my case than he is likely to ever know, and I need him to expedite it rather than hold it up. He promised to forward the results to me and my RO immediately next time. He also agreed to put up all my lab test results without his prior review. It's just the stuff we all go through when setting the terms of a new relationship, I guess.

My PSA is stored on the hospitals website. I usually have access to it within a couple days. I also have access to all my prior test results.

Some people at work who have different hospital networks have said they have emailed their doctor pictures such as rashes and have gotten an email with an answer back from their doctor without having to go in for an office visit.

My HMO posts the lab results immediately on their website. Yesterday I went in for a PSA blood draw at 10:30 AM, and had the results on-line before 6 PM. Previous Med Onc had set it up to not post until she appraised test results, several days later, but after I complained about the delay, they stopped 'holding' the results.

MSK website had my results 90 minutes after the blood was drawn....impressive.

I have to deal with this monthly and it sometimes drives me crazy. Labcorp has their portal which will only posts their results after all blood tests are complete and given first to my doctor. (Some tests take longer than others.) Myers also has a portal which they update usually within a week.

Sometimes I can get results within a few days, but sometimes (the crazy part) it takes up to 12 days, like this last time. So when you're doing monthly tests, there is no time between tests to take a breath. For example:

Let's say I give blood on August 1. Get results on August 12. A little more than 2 weeks later I get to give blood again...and the cycle continues...

I've tended to take exactly a month off between when I get results and when I give blood...even though it might not be exactly a month....I need a break from it and that's how I deal with it.

Having been shocked too much in doctors office that have led for me to have the results before my doctor visits. That way I've had time to digest and think more rationally at the appointment.

At Cancer Treatment Center of America, I give a blood draw at 12:15 ,they have the Lab at the Center, and the Doctor sits down to go everything with me around two hours later. They also post all the results on our patient portal a short time later.
