Time for a new update thread, other one got too long and is buried now.
I see my civilian PCP in the morning at 11. Will find out about the x-rays and special blood work that was taken 2 weeks ago. Will let him know, that this 2nd antidepressant isn't doing anything for my appetite either. But at least its not giving me nausea like the previous one. This one was suppose to create "intense carb cravings" as he put it, but nothing, zip. No change.
Also, I have recently discovered a disturbing lump in my lower left cheek, below my gums and teeth. It's long and rectangular, doesn't hurt, feels very solid. Scary part, it feels just like the large porocarcinoma lump that I found years ago (my 3rd bout). Same side, but abut 3" or so higher up. There is no a corresponding lump on the right side. I noticed this about 2 weeks ago. It will have to be checked out, or removed and biopsied. Hoping its something benign, but does put a little fear into me, as it has been enough years for that rare type of cancer to return. Hopefully not.
Hoping the PCP has a new game plan, or at least will come up with something real fast.
On the dental side, been busy on the phone with the VA in Columbia for 2 days. Getting to the bottom of things. Come to find out, that after the Dr. got the oxygen treatments and surgery approved on July 22, it went to this male nurse, in another VA office in Columbia. It was marked for immediate action. It's been sitting at his desk all this time. I got ahold of the dental office, and their liaison discovered that they have issues with this nurse, not doing his job. They tried to call him on his 2 extensions, but both are full, and won't accept any messages. I tried all day, and could not reach him, tried to get the operator, and it said that they were unable to patch through to the operator.
So the big oral surgeon got involved, and called this nurse's supervisor, and the supervisor's supervisor, and read them the riot act. Told them of the pain I was in, and how urgent this dental care was, etc. So the nurse did call me back, the one and only time my phone wasn't in my pocket today (about 10 minutes when I was in a store), saying, he was ready to schedule the oxygen treatments, all I had to do was to call him back. So I did, and got the same messages about his voice mail being full, not accepting messages.
So I called the liaison back, and she said she was going to slam him in the morning, to have him keep calling me until he reaches me, and for him to clear both his message boxes and his e-mail. She apologized for him, and said that he was screwing over another vet with a case similar to mine. And that this would be resolved by tomorrow or else. She told me how furious the oral surgeon was, and he too, intends to stay on top of this. He wants my treatments to begin immediately.
Hard to believe I have to go through all this hassle. This dental work was considered both critical and urgent in January of this year, and here it is, almost September, and not a single thing has been done to my mouth.
Week after next, I see my oncologist for my next 3 months visit, and, boy, do I ever have a long written list to go over with him.
Then the following week, I have an appointment with my new VA PCP doctor (I essentially "fired" the last one recently), and if at that point, if my PCP and Oncologist can't come up with any specific answers, I intend to unload the rest of my problems directly on the VA.
Was at PT today, and even with my own rolling walker, I kept dropping one or both of my hips. Now the therapist are saying they may have to put a safety harness on me, which is even more embarrassing than the walker itself, but they are terrified that I am going to get seriously hurt.
So there's going to be a lot going on for me the next 2-3 weeks, and all I can hope for, is to get some answers and remedies. Something has to give, I just can't keep keeping on, with all these multiple problems lingering for months now. It sure isn't from the lack of trying on my part.
