Hello Theresaxx .......
I am 10-years younger than your Dad, and I was originally diagnosed almost 11-years ago. My progression of treatments and PSA are mostly listed below on my signature.
However, unlike most with PCa, my kidneys were also affected by being blocked by the spreading cancer - much like your Dad's! I have had a stent on the left kidney and a nefrostomy tube/bag for the right kidney - now for close to 2-years.
There are many types of chemo available - but at your Dad's age, the doctor(s) may not want to go that direction. My most recent chemo has been Jevtana .... and I will likely return to the Jevtana before long - after a period of 3-months without chemo.
I did return to an excercise program for pulmonary and/or cardiac patients over a month ago. There are nurse-monitored excercise sessions with warm-up and cool-down periods - three times a week. Each session is easily 60+ minutes long.
Even after over 5-months of the jevtana chemo treatments (8-total), I was able to handle the excercise program. Between the taxotere and jevtana, i have had 18-chemo treatments thru my chestport - in addition to the oral chemo/ht shown below.
I also have been on Lupron for close to 3-years + prednisone & xgeva for 2-years. Many of the treatments and the Lupron are very tiring - but the excercise does help, so it may be to your Dad's advantage should chemo be one of the choices.
Keep strong ....... like him!
