Anyone growing a beard or mustache for Movember?

Thanks for reminding me. My. Wife thinks facial hair is for terrorists. But I might go for it.

Yooper is one of the good guys and I expect he'll be along shortly with his comments and thoughts. He and I seemed to be of the same mindset.

Hey Bill, thanks for starting this thread and also for the kind words! Yep, this is NOT a duplicate thread, but is one that is needed. There was very, very little traction for September's Prostate Cancer Awareness Month out there in the world, so hopefully we can make some noise for Movember.

Back in the day our old buddy Casey59 did a thread on Movember and it went over very well from what I remember. He did challenge me to shave and start again, but alas, as much as I will continue to promote and support this - SO NOT willing to shave the 'stache!!!!

Maybe my mustache can be grandfathered in. I grew it in 1968 -- all of us at my coastal surveillance center grew one -- and I have never shaved it since. There's an ancient scar under there on my right upper lip -- maybe it's faded pretty much away by now, but I'd look like someone else now if I shaved my upper lip and I prefer not to look in the mirror and see a stranger after all these years. For that matter my chin has also been shrouded in a short stubble since 1980 or so.

Except at HW, I have not seen anything about Movember this year. I may not be the most connected guy around, but I'd thought I would have seen something elsewhere by now. Anyone else see it publicized somewhere?

And I don't know if I will participate. I look like a goober with a mustache ...
... ok, I already look like a goober without one -- but I'll look like more of a total-goober-face with one. You guys probably look great, but it just don't work for me.

If I get a exemption to grow a goatee or a beard, then maybe -- I think i can pull that off, but following the strict interpretation of the rules, to only grow a 'stash? Nah, not for me.

Thanks for the reminder, Big Mac. There was a session about it at the Sept PCRI (Prostate Cancer Research Institute) meeting.

I may just grow one if my facial hair cooperates.

Off to a good start having forgotten to pack my razor for this weekend's trip to Marina del Rey for my final Provenge treatment.

My favorite line last time I tried to grow one, "Is that a mustache you're growing?"

I'd rub under my nose and reply

"No, it's snot"

I'm growing for sure! Wild and not shaving at all. whether my Wife likes it or not! We started Movember at the urging of a Heath Teacher at our Middle School, Jack Popper, and had about a dozen staff commit and follow through. We ended up front page in our local paper. The next year, I had a psa spike, and the rest is history... darn right I'm supporting Movember, knowledge and participation saved my life for sure, at least so far!

Kukukajoo, That is the spirit! A lot of guys have given all kinds of excuses why they can't join in on the fun but not you!

Just to clarify, it does not have to be a mustache, it can be any facial hair. Just something to draw attention to yourself so you can talk about Men's Health and PCa.

I am shaving my mustache tomorrow and regrowing it. Lorna and I got married in 1997 and that was the last year I was without a mustache.

I did this last year and did it again, the reversal. I shaved clean and now regrowing this month. I did have some people ask me about it, so it does work to start a conversation about pc.
