I think one of the reasons I'm having so much trouble, besides the fact that I'm insane, is that I have been blessed to have lived 64 years without ever being sick, other than a cold, or a ripped up knee. And I feel like a very young 64. People are shocked when I tell them My age. I feel so full of energy, work hard, I'm driven, I walk / run 4 miles on the weekend, ive lost 35 pounds in the last 3 years (on puprpose) and feel physically like a million bucks I've got a jawbone on my wrist to track my activity So all this makes it hard to take because I wasn't ready for it
Don't know if I will have that energy level I had, after the surgery, I hope it comes back. But I don't want to be so driven anymore. Iwant to learn how to enjoy and relax. I hope I can do that.
Pman,
You shouldn't need to worry about
energy after treatment. You say you are a "young" 64. Well, I'm a young 68 (and in two months will be a young 69). I had
open RP surgery in 2002 and had two months of salvage radiation in 2010. But other than a bit of down-time during treatment, none of it has slowed me down. The week I returned to work after my
open RP worked 14 hour days followed by a literal all-nighter to meet an insane bid deadline -- just like old times--because that was what the situation called for.
I'm retired now, but over the summer I tore up, rebuilt, and re-shingled a rotting section of porch roof, scraped off old lead paint down to bare wood(in the heat, wearing a respirator), and sanded and repainted much of the front of my house. Then in October I pulled our trailer on a 3,000 mile road trip and spent long days touring Nashville, Memphis, etc. on foot.
I broke a rib a bit less than two weeks ago. This time 10 days ago I was laying low on Oxycodone and watching Netflix. Yesterday and today I was pretty much back to real life (other than no heavy lifting for a few more weeks) -- took my dog for a ride in my truck as I ran errands to buy a new blade for my band saw, ink for my printer, some wine for dinner, etc. I never even took the last dozen of the 20 Oxy pills the emergency room doc prescribed. Other than when I look in the mirror, I really don't feel much different than I did 50 years ago.
