Blood in urine

I would go to the ER.

We're waiting on the next pee. He spoke to a urology tech at the ER who said not to be concerned unless it continues extensively or even worse, if he can't pee at all.
So I'm going to get him to pee in a cup the next time he has to go, as from what I saw in the toilet after the last one didn't look all that concerning to me....so I'd like to see it before it mingles with all that water;)
On a side note, he saw his RO today who specifically asked him if he's any blood in the urine/stool, which of course he said no...and then 4 hours later here we are...power of persuasion...ha!

I had blood in urine, not severe. Their office told me go to the ER if my stream was red like ketchup, had clots, or if I had a lot of pain.

It sounds like his is probably in the ER range, especially if what was in the bowl was burgundy colored.

I have had something similar happen 2x.The first time was about 15 months after completing SRT. The next episode was approx. 18 months later. Both times I freaked, but my urologist said to drink lots of water and if it didn't stop in 6-8 hours to contact him. It did stop. I had been passing blood and clots. He did want to do a cystoscopy each time. It turns out to be radiation damage. All that happened about 6 years ago...no further bleeding.....but 2 years ago ended up with advanced rectal cancer.....4 different docs all thought it was caused by the SRT.......radiation can for sure be a life saver but also a life changer ... and not for the better either !!

I was told to expect scar tissue to break off and bleed from time to time. Especially an issue when the radiation is on top of surgery. As you learned, no biggie.

If the anastomosis tears, that's a whole other story - but fortunately, a very rare one.

Regarding the blood seen in the urine, I am not concerned at this point. Following radiation therapy it is common to have the formation of small thin blood vessels in the lining of the bladder, this is call telangiectasia. These may bleed from time to time, but are usually self-limiting and will stop on there on. If you experience continued hematuria or blood in the urine, please let me know. You will likely require a cystoscopy to investigate further.
