Some of the patent drugs which work on the same problems people normally use Saw Palmetto(SP)for seem to be implicated in an increase in diagnosis of more aggressive cancers. Some also claim they lower PSA at least in the first year of use, possibly delaying diagnosis of PC, so adjustments should be made. Or at least some studies indicate, I am sure there are opposite views also. These drugs are not SP, but SP might work in the same way.
I took for 20+ years. I was diagnosed with aggressive PC. Did 20 years of PC contribute? Who knows, you don't see a lot of studies on supplements. This is one of several things in my long term lifestyle (lots of eggs and chicken with skin, moderate dairy) which I now wonder if they contributed to my diagnoses. Don't know if I will ever know for sure, due to conflicting info.
When it comes to supplements and or foods, the studies are not really available for the most part. Especially truly unbiased studies. So good or bad, it is hard to know the long term results. OTOH, many or some of the supplements and especially foods have been tested for decades or centuries. So they do have that going for them.
