Testicular pain four weeks post-RP.

Had the Davinchi 12/4 for removal, experiencing testicular pain, how long can I expect this. Pretty intense now after 4 wks. Something the doc did not tell me about.

After a radical prostectomy pretty much everything in the area will hurt occasionally for a few weeks but four weeks seems a bit much. Call you doctor's office and tell him (or his nurse) about your pain. It doesn't sound typical.

Hello Peter, thanks for the response. I will admit, I am very disappointed with my doc and the extreme lack of information about what to expect after surgery. I now understand why there are malpractice suites against them. So I will call them. I have read more good info from this group that most printed material.

My husband had his surgery one day before yours. While I know everyone is different and experiences different things I would think this is NOT normal and would definitely call the doctors office and have it seen about. Good luck on your post-op PSA. ~Miki~

If the doctor's annoying phone menu tree offers an opportunity to talk to his nurse, that's what you want. If the nurse can't answer your question it will be referred to the surgeon and the nurse will get back to you with an answer.

some pain or discomfort around the op site(s), bladder and rectum and a sense of fullness in the scrotum is not unusual for a short while or from time to time after this op but sustained bad testicular pain for 4 weeks doesn't seem usual from my own experience or from anything that I have read over the past year. As others have suggested it seems time to be contacting your doctor and getting his / her advice or opinion about this if only to re-assure you. anxiety does nothing to help you cope or the healing process.

Painful, yes. Mostly normal, yes. How long will it last, hard to say, my surgeon said that many of my post open surgical pains would fade by 6 months out, and he was mostly correct. Seems like there was almost always something hurting me during that time.

My answer to a lot of questions, "how long is a piece of string" all depends. Still checking with the doc. Only relief is lying flat, can't do that, rest when I can, ice/ heat.

Update01/06/15
Saw the doc today about the pain in the testicles an anal area.
He thought there may be a slight infection in the tecticles, so on Cipro, the pain in the bottom he said is normal due to the complications of the extra large prostate and the fact that it had protruded into the bladder. The reconstruction of the bladder is part of the cause of the pain in the rectum area making it very difficult in sitting. Now the time frame for recovery could be 6 to 12 weeks.
I told the doc and I share with others that it seems a theme with doctors in that they do not prepare you for pain or pain management. Mine did not tell me anything about these things.
