Redness after RP

My scrotum quadrupled in size, was black and blue.. Looked like it went through a bar brawl and clearly lost. It took a while to get back to normal but was something my surgeon told me would happen.

You may want to try some barrier ointment, much like they use for diaper rash.

Note to self: do not make the joke about red balls sounding Christmasy. It may be too soon.

I have four suggestions that can be tried in any combination. If his problem is --

Jock itch (fungus) he could try Lotrimin Ultra. (Butinafine is the good stuff and worth the extra price.)

Diaper rash (chafing from the dampness) he can try a barrier product.

Contact reaction (sort of a catchall case) then a hydrocortisone cream might help.

Normal and expected after surgery then he will need patience (always in short supply).

If he tries combining them they should be applied in order of increasing greasiness: fungicide first, then hydrocortisone and the barrier product last. As for patience the hydrocortisone will probably help him find some of that. It's hard to be patient when you itch.

Sounds a bit rough, but be sure he isn't trying to save money by filling up the last ounce the pad should theoretically hold. Waste not, want not does not apply here. A soggy pee-pad is a breeding ground for things you don't even want to think about. Been there, done that, won't go that way again for the sake of a buck or two a day.

Change pads when they are wet. And yes, you may want to try an equivalent weight pad in a different brand. I was blowing through a mega-pack a week, so had lots of opportunity to look at what was on sale.

I had exactly that. The color and size increase I was told was to be expected. The itching I encountered was caused because I did not change my pad often enough. After a few days of treating it like diaper rash, the itch was gone and I now carry around a pad in my back pocket just in case. Like the moderator said, do not wait to change a wet pad. Keep as dry as you can.
