They tell you that stuff before the surgery so you'll think you have some control over the situation and will agree to the surgery. It gives you (false) confidence.
If they told you there was a 1 in 9 chance you will still have wet pants at the end of a year, and a 50% chance of ED at 2 years, you wouldn't get in the car!
The morning of my surgery my wife shook the car keys and enthusiastically asked me if I wanted to go out for ice cream. She does that every time we go to the
vet Uro.
After surgery I worked really hard on kegels and biofeedback and every other trick in the book. It turns out no amount of kegeling would ever have fixed me. Half of my bladder sphincter was taken. Thanks for telling me, doc.
Apparently you have to suffer for a year before truly throwing in the (wet) towel and going for a surgical fix.
An AdVance sling fixed me.
Yay! I can wear big boy pants!
Here's my takeaway message: You can influence the result a little bit by exercising, kegeling, eating right, etc. But, by far, the biggest factors are what and how much of you was removed by whom. You are a statistic. Don't blame yourself if you end up with a wet noodle. You did nothing wrong.
