Possible explanation for Xtandi and Casodex treatment failure: new paper

This site is a great source of "new" information. Although too many of these early findings don't end up panning out, at some point it may be a "lets give this a try doc" moment.

When I received Xtandi I had already dropped Casodex, in hopes that I would have a positive response that some have when they quit Casodex, but no luck.

Maybe in the future I will give Xtandi, combined with Casodex, a shot at the beast. I sure hope he has something here!

Interesting you should ask... I saw Dr. Myer's video on Metformin shortly before a scehduled visit with my local oncologist, who is quite conservative and follows NCCN guidelines for treatments . I suggested it to him, but his opinion was that I would be conducting a "chemical experiment" on myself, and we have no idea how Metformin might interact with the other drugs I am on (chemo/xl184).

I didn't push it, but I will see what NIH has to say about my adding Metfromin to my current therapy ; maybe they have some diabetics on the trial that are already taking Metformin without any issues. I definitely have an interest in Metformin and may be able to have Myers prescribe it for me, however until I'm off the trial everything needs to be cleared with NIH.

No, it is saying that researchers are making progress understanding why Xtandi and Casodex eventually stop working.

The idea is that if a new drug which targets "antiandrogen-regulated oncogenes" can be invented, combining that new drug with Casodex or Xtandi could possibly make Casodex or Xtandi work longer for people.
