I just think the heavy lifting after surgery will be problematic, and there is an elevated risk of hernias afterwards.
Do you live in Houston?
I agree with PDA that MD Anderson has a great brachytherapy department, and that with his GS 8, he would probably need 5 weeks of external beam radiation and perhaps some hormone therapy with that. The nice thing about
the external beam part is that he could get that done anywhere locally and just go in for the seeds in a single visit afterwards. The external beam takes about
an hour out of each day, all told, and he can be at work before and after. There's no down time unless he has a rare complication. There is little risk of incontinence, and less risk of impotence than with surgery. He will experience some irritative urinary and rectal side effects which may be really annoying at first but will get better over time. There are medicines he can take to help him with that.
Steven Frank is the radiation oncologist you'll want to make an appointment with at MD Anderson.

There's no downtime, no operations, no anesthesia. It's been used for intermediate risk since 2003, but there's only about
5 years of data for high risk.
