Hi There,

TY! I noticed this, too. My husband's yet-to-be-treated PCa is here, with treatment looming. His mom had breast cancer, as did her mother.

How many other guys on here have breast and/or ovarian in their families?

Wondering, wondering....

I have a first cousin (mother's side) about my age who was Dx'd with BC about a year ago. Fortunately, she continues to do okay.

As far as I know, she and I are the only cases of cancer among all of our relatives (at least the ones I can think of). So, not really a pattern there.

Unfortunately Cancer is pervasive in my family.

My maternal grandfather had bowel cancer, my mother died from cervical cancer, my elder half sister had breast cancer and died from liver cancer (may have been secondaries from the BC).

I have PCa and more regrettably my youngest daughter (43) had breast cancer and mastectomy 4 years ago and has just been diagnosed with secondaries in her liver. Now undergoing Chemo (Docetaxel) along with Herceptin and Perjeta.

I hate Ca, but then who doesn't!

My mother had breast cancer, brother testicular, sister skin and me with my PCa.

Beth, thank you for your thoughts.

Watching a loved one having to fight this battle is worse than going through it yourself. I know you would understand that.

Hope Gary responds to the latest treatment and your upcoming fishing trip goes well.

DH's mother died at 36 from breast cancer. I didn't know til after DH was diagnosed that there was a gene that cause both cancers. If I'd known he was at increased risk I would have insisted that he have PSA checked soon. Sophie

More properly it is actually a mutation of the BRCA gene which makes people susceptible to cancer. The BRCA gene actually fights against rogue cells and it is when the gene is mutated, it is less able to carry on that fight, hence the risk of cancer increases.

While someone with a mutated gene may be more susceptible to cancer it is not a guarantee.

My daughter was tested for the mutation when she was first diagnosed with breast cancer 4 years ago, but did not have it. Two years later I was diagnosed with PC.
