I sincerely believe that stress has more to do with prostate cancer than all the other contributors.
i am curious.. How many of you have or had high stress jobs?

My job issn't stressful...I think PCA is gene related.
My parent, both have cancer & 2 other siblings

Could be genes, but no cancer in my family. Have had high stress all my life (Investment Banker).

CafeRacer: I sincerely believe that constant stress has a negative effect on our immune systems. Diet, exercise, and especially environmental factors also are contributors. I have no known relatives with any kind of cancer, hey the stats are there for those with relatives with cancer.

Stress is a good thing, if we know the limits. It strengthens us in many ways ,until it passes " the too clever by half" that in all things we continuously pass. I also know that cardio exercise, which releases free radicles {not the 60's kine…there was always a price in that kine} can destroy dna of cells if not countered by antioxidants found in numerous diets{google for a list}. Get as much antioxidants as able so as to prevent the "free radicles" from crossing over to the "dark side" Like surfing its all about balance and zest….. Party on Garth...

Have had high stress jobs for many years. At one point about twenty years ago, I suffered from adrenal exhaustion.

I concur and to add to that thought, some of us do have the gene relation factor and the stress acts as an initiator. I don't have a stress related job, but I do remember having stress in my life when all this started.

I think the increase in PCa, and other cancers, that we are experiencing is due to the increase in electromagnetic radiation we are receiving (TV, radio, cell phone, microwave, x-Rays, body scans, Bluetooth, etc. etc.).

If you shouldn't put your cell phone next to your head (to avoid a brain tumor) maybe men shouldn't carry it in their front pants pocket (to avoid PCa)??

Thanks all. My Father died of PC 21 years ago. None of his brothers had any type of cancer. Heart disease yes...cancer no.
My Father had his own business that demanded certain deadlines to be met. Plus he was a triple A type personality.
I have been sales all my life. Pressure to make sales. Pressure take delivery dates.
Here's my take on stress and prostate cancer: high stress causes the "fight or flight syndrome" (most men would like to fight), our body prepares for battle by releasing andrendaline (to fuel the fight) cortisol ( to sustain the fight and testosterone (for extra muscle strength and repair). Because we don't/ can't fight these hormones take time to get out of our systems. This process causes changes in our systems to destroy the cancer cells(which are in our bodies all the time), hence the cancer spreads.

I tend to agree with your thoughts that stress might be a factor in PCa.

I had a high stress job flying those AA Silver birds. I had a number of airline friends that have come down with PCa too. I don't know if it's the stress or all the electromagnetic radiation we received in the cockpit with the radar sometimes being on for hours at a time in bad weather. Got lots of radiation from the sun too flying at high altitudes. Still finding CA spots on my head.

Everyone handles stress differently........My dad had his own business and was stressed out all the time. He eventually became an alcoholic and so did my mom. Both died of complications from years of drinking and smoking. No cancer in either one of them.

Since we are throwing out theories, how about the overdose of hormone treated livestock we consume as a major cause of cancer.

In the end, there is no single cause of cancer, of any type. The factors include diet, stress, genetics, "environment"--which includes a whole lot of stuff. Cancer is ultimately a genetic disease housed in the nucleus and dna of our own bodies. The causes of the genetic changes that lead to cancer are numerous and not completely understood. In my view, the research question needs to move towards understanding what is different or unusual about those people who are in their 80's, 90's who do not and never have had cancer. What is special about them?
