Post Prostatectomy via Da Vinci robotic

Surg. was Thurs for husband, he is in alot of abdominal pain (normal)and dizziness I associate with being on a 45 degree angle for over 2 hrs. (previously, due to spinal surgeries he could never even lay flat) The worst part of this surgery will be trying to keep him sedentary for the weeks (months) ahead while he is healing.
The ports are larger than described especially on the right abdomen and the umbilical incision is 3-4" long. So much for being less invasive. I guess every case is different. Suspicious areas near the prostate were biopsied and tested negative but a more extensive pathoogy will be available in a week when we get the supra-pubic catheter removed at the follow up appt.
Can't say enough about the Henry Ford Health System, the Vattakuti Institute, the healthcare providers and the surgeon, all are awesome.

La Salle, I think you should check with the surgeon about what is going on with a lot of abdominal pain. My surgery about 5 1/2 years ago was more "normal' than what your husband had except my incision in the naval area had to accommodate a badly enlarged prostate but the pain I had was only during standing up and sitting down. Otherwise it was not more than what I would call some discomfort. It may be that there were issues in doing the surgery or his past medical problems that caused your husband's outcome to be somewhat different than what most men have from Da Vinci surgery. Also check with the surgeon on his recommendations on the kind and amount of physical activity your husband should have at this point in time. His spinal surgeries may be a factor in what the surgeon recommends but normally, as clocknut said, a reasonable amount of walking is highly recommended. In my case, walking actually made the discomfort I had entirely go away for a while during and after some walking. Hopefully your husband will be up and around and feeling better shortly.

They made me walk the corridors of the hospital in that back-to-front apron with my crease show before they discharged me... so walk walk walk ...

Oh deflinitely he is walking alot and is doing little things like watering the flowers outside and making himself some toast and coffee. My husband is not one to sit still but the hazards of strenuous activity I told him could make him wear that bag permanently. Bending or stooping are out, getting up and down from a chair is very uncomfortable but diminishes quickly. His leg bag has been on since he left the hospital, the large one only at night. He took a shower and I changed the bandages at the catheter site today, no bandages on the staples from other incisions. He is drinking alot of different beverages since he must refrain from the carbonated colas he so loves. This is day 3 and gas expelled but no BM yet. He drank some OJ that previously would loosen him up, so we are patiently waiting for a result. Thank you all for your input.
