Just got my psa test: 0.4 after three straight <.1 readings subsequent to SRT and ADT following biochemical recurrence after failed RP. I'm disappointed but not totally shocked given my pathology post RP. My Urologist said he has seen this kind of result frequently and it's not necessarily indicative of a problem. Urologist recommends pet scan to locate the PCa, then perhaps Avodart. I was not a happy camper on Lupron. Any thoughts?

Sounds like you're headed for a scan.

Hang in there and let us know if it finds anything.

Hopefully you're getting one of the newer scans. C-11,68ga something with a tracer that can pick up with your low PSA. Are you taking a statin metformin and adovert? I hope your scan finds it and it can be treated. Good Luck

I'm so sorry to hear the disappointing news. I think your doctor is right to check for detectable mets, but your PSA might have to get higher before it's detectable on anything except maybe the new PSMA scans. If mets are not detectable, the new PSMA-based therapies, now in clinical trials, show great promise at targeting micromets. Unfortunately, you have to be castrate-resistant with no mets to get on it, or go to Heidelberg where they are more advanced than we in the US are on this front.

I've been on Crestor (statin) for many years. My urologist doubts that the pet scan will find anything but I'll most probably go back on avodart and I need to find out more about metformin which I believe Dr Myers supports. Up til now I've had no mets and pray that I can continue to keep them at bay. My surgeon told me I'd be fighting this for the rest of my life when he saw the pathology report: guess he was correct!
