HDHOG,
I'm an engineer and like to quantify things. Back when I was incontinent I measured everything I drank and every drop I peed. Input and output. And plotted it every day for 16 months! I have a lab scale in the kitchen and used dedicated Red Solo cup for my measurements down to 0.01 grams. (The guys who have attended GFMPH-NY gatherings can verify this as well as the "Pee gravel" test site.) I also used it for pee pad capacity studies as well as evaporation rate measurements but that is another story.
Here are some numbers for you. Once you get them in your head you will better understand what's going on. Of course these are estimates so YMMV.
1) A typical, well hydrated, male will produce 1 ml of pee per kg or body weight per hour. (Assuming you weigh 180 pounds that is 3 oz of pee per hour.)
2) A typical adult male has a bladder micturation point (the point where you feel like you have to pee) of 250ml - 600 ml, 8 oz to 20 oz. Let's say you are a 400 ml guy. 12 oz.
3) For a well hydrated male, liquid intake is very close to liquid output. Call it the same. (I have the real calculation if you care.)
So, if you are drinking eight 8 oz glasses of water per day you will be peeing 64 oz. With a bladder capacity of 12 oz you will pee at least 5 times if you manage to hold it as long as you can - until your eyes water. Assuming you are awake 16 hours a day. That means you will need to pee every 4 hours, and for one hour before each time you would be walking around with your knees knocking thinking about dripping faucets, waterfalls, and fire hydrants. That is 5 hours per day with yellow in your eyes!
I don't know you, but from your writing I am pretty sure you are not a dog that needs to mark territory. Unless you're plugged into a catheter that drains directly into your sump pump crock*, 64 oz is a lot. No wonder you feel like that is all you do all day.
Pee in a cup a few times and weigh it so you have a good understanding of your capacity. Don't let your bladder get used to the new smaller state.
Good luck,
Jeff
*A 75 ft length of 1/4 inch Tygon tubing with a loop on the end, to act as a trap, works perfectly. Warning: The XX chromosome holder of the household will not appreciate it anywhere near as much as you. Make sure she doesn't "accidentally" trip over it.
