So is Proton treatment for SRT now considered "Standard Treatment" by Medicare and the big medical insurance companies or is it considered to be "experimental" and therefore not normally covered? Or is there a third possibility I am completely unaware of.....

Could it be that Scripps has cut the price of Proton treatment to match the price of Photon treatment? Medicare and the insurance companies would have little complaint then..That's what happened when the Da Vinci robot became available..At first, hospitals tried to charge much more for this type of surgery..But when the machines sat unused, they finally dropped the price to what Medicare paid for open surgery....

I hope Themacs stays with us..He is a pioneer and Pioneers can always expect a rough trail and strong headwinds..Nobody is attacking him, we are just curious about the details !

You come here for knowledge, experience and compassion. When you're dealing with your life it is tough to hear you are doing the wrong thing. I did not think there were many doctors on this board but I guess we must have a few.

I 1st sought out the Director of Cedar Sinai Radiation Oncology (Dr. Sandler) and visited him. He is ranked in the top few in the country. He felt that Scripps was a good fit for what I needed after he poured over all my records and tests. It should be noted that Cedars does NOT have Proton and they still referred me to Scripps OR his own facility if I so choose. He told me he would not hesitate to send one of his family members (or himself) to Dr. Rossi. Also I find Dr. Rossi is highly ranked and I couldn't even see him until he ALSO poured over all my tests and records. I could not even make an appointment until it was decided he could help.

I do not have regrets as I have visited 2 of the finest hospitals and Dr's in our fine country.

I thank the people who have been kind as does my wife Carol.

So you must be 4 or 5 treatments into the planned 28 fractions..How are things going so far?

Exactly my status now:

# 7 today. Things feel fine. Had a 2nd CT at #5.

Meaning I have had 7 treatments and had a 2nd CT after # 5 treatment.

All is well.
