Had prostate removed over six years ago. All psa were undetectable.
Just had this years psa and it was 0.1 Surgeon says i should do
radiation now. Set up appt. with radiation DR. Gleason before surgery
was 7 (3+4) Just wanted to see what every one thinks. thank you

I would first have another test. I found out this summer that the Quest Lab my doctor was using didn't show anything below 0.1 which is what I showed to be for the past year. Had another lab do a PSA and it came back at 0.06 which, of course, is undetectable.

Bud sounds reasonable to get an ultra-sensitive psa test now and then talk about SRT.
Big Mac with your pathology report why are you not getting ultra-sensitive psa test? Many doctors would be monitoring you every three months.

Another PSA test to confirm the rise is standard procedure. And usually nothing is done until you hit 0.2 with an additional confirmed retest. With your very long time between surgery and the rise to 0.1 you should have plenty of time to search for a good radiation oncologist for SRT.

I think 0.2 is the magic point where SRT should begin.

Agree with all comments. I am having SRT now after PSA hit .23. Literature seems to indicate .2 is the decision time. Going to .4 can be an issue as I understand it. I have always had two results. Regular PSA and Ultra sensitive.

Personally (JUST ME) I would not consider SRT until I got an USPSA at .2. I am treating at Cedars Sinai and Scripps Institute .

Do not wait for PSA to reach 0.2. All recent data show that earlier salvage treatment has better outcomes. I think a confirming PSA on an ultrasensitive test is a good idea.

That is a good point. If you're pretty sure you are going to do it, then the earlier the better. The advice I was given was .2. If it leveled off before that and did not rise anymore, there would be no need. I was getting blood work every 3 months for the last year.

These things change as we get the benefit of new studies. Not all doctors stay up to date or agree with new data. That's why the patient has to learn all this stuff for himself.

The data Tall Allen is referring to states that .03 is the new point to jump off. These are some of the same doctors that wrote about .2 back in 2007. They helped develop MSK predictive tools. Now their data shows better outcomes earlier- their reasoning is if you hit .03 then you will eventually get to .2.

Thank you every one. I will meet with radiologist on wed. and ask
for ultra sensitive psa.
