New here: very uncomfortable pain between rectum and scrotum, 3 weeks after robotic RP

Everything went well after my home coming! But since this week (3 rd) I developed this very uncomfortable pain between my rectum and scrotum, also affecting the testes and sometimes very sharp spikes on the sides of the penis.

I'm very worried about this, is this part of the recovery process?

Hope to hear some supporting feedback

cassie, that doesn't sound normal at all. This sounds like something you need to be calling your doc about, maybe even their 24 hour number. Are you passing any blood?

Thankyou for your quick respons. I noticed somewhere in this forum other members reporting it as normal and that it can last for up to 6 - 12 weeks. When I'm lying down the pain bassically drop to a 1 or a 2 but when I'm upright and not walking or when I'm trying to sit it flares up again.
No I'm not passing blood, my bowel movement is however a bit difficult, but I believe it is from the pain medication (paracetamol) I'm taking.
Didn't you experience the pain?

I was fully off pain meds by day 4 post surgery, and I only took opiates (percoset) for the first day home from the hospital. Opiates can create constipation in many people, so keep taking your fiber, keep hydrated, and your stool softeners.

Paracetamol is the same as Tylenol in the US. That should not be causing any constipation issues. I would call my surgeon or primary care physician for the symptoms you describe.

I had similar sounding pain for months after surgery. Do yourself a favor and reach out to the doc use to make sure you are ok

I am 3 weeks and two days out of surgery and not having any pains. Call the doc and see what they say.

I agree. Pain after a few days is unusual and use of pain meds for more than a week is very unusual. You need to have a soft bm so take stool softeners and fiber supplement like Metamucil. Your doc should be all over this!

I had a pain sitting after my RALP. When I asked my surgeon about it, he said "does it feel like a pinecone up your butt?" I had to laugh, because that's exactly what it felt like. It did go away, but like you, I was only comfortable and laying down.

I mentioned this in passing on a thread the other day as a heads up to someone post op. I believe it is penile pain which can have sympathetic pain between the scrotum and rectum. Mine like yours was fairly intense for the first few weeks and eased up over the months...Yes in my case it lasted for 8 mos. My surgeon/urological oncologist said it was normal explaining it thus. "its the pain from all the slicing and dicing... the pain has ti go somewhere. Not sure if he was being facetious or what. In the meantime sit on one of this airplane neck holders or a small childs inner tube. take some ibuprofen like that. Oh and if you have to cough, hold a pillow tight to your gut and go for it...it helps. You could probably make a call to your surgeons nurse and she would ease your mind or make an appointment with the surgeon.
BTW I had open surgery.

Thanks for all the feedback. Yes I also think it must have something to do with the penile nerves busy recovering because it starts on the one side side (sometimes it changes to the other side) of the basis or "root" of the penis and it feels like something is under tension or stretching when I get up. Then slowy it becomes more intens until I lie down.
I can empty my bladder althought it is not much every time, I do not have any blood in my urine and I do not have a fever, so all I can think it must have something to do with the recovery phase of the nerves.

Have anybody investigated (or was diagnosed) the possibility that this pain is caused by Pudendal nerve entrapment syndrome?
All the symptoms, I experiencing, are exactly that which is caused by this syndrome.

I googled it and the symptoms are very similar to yours. Having said that it would be a massive coincidence that you have that. It is primarily a women's disease, but can affect men. BTW if you ever get the time to ask your medical team about it. Keep us in the loop if possible.

I visited our house doctor (GP) today regarding this pain. And she agreed that it can be this pudendal nerve entrapment syndrome.

I have a theory; from what I saw in forums regarding pain between the rectum and scrotum, men indicating that this pain struck them after 3 - 5 weeks after surgery. When they leave the hospital inflamation medicine is prescript which contains the swelling inside and prevents presurre to the pudental nerve. After the 2nd week this inflamion control medicine is finished and in some cases (like mine) the swelling is not completly eliminated and starts presuring the pudendal nerve and causing this pain. The swelling dissapear over time with the healing process (6 - 8weeks) and pressure on the pudendal nerve is relieved and the pain disappear.

My doctor today prescript Lyrica 75mg 1 bd and Celebrex 200mg 1/d. It is now about 6 hours ago since I've started to take the medicine and I can already feel the relieve from he pain. I can already walk around and stand for more than 2 - 4mins on the same place without experiencing the burning pain. I'll post my daily progress, maybe my experience can help others who have the same symptoms (sorry for spellingg mistakes, I'm missing a spel checker in these forums)

I've taken Lyrica and Celebrex now for the last 5 days and the pain is about on a level 4 (from 9) It allows me to walk around and do some work. So what I can surely say is that it is a nerve pain.

Recovery has ups and down with a sure progression forward. It mimics life in general here and over yonder.

I don't know which Web-browser you are using. If you use Google Chrome you can activate a spellchecker in the browser. It works instantly! I am sure other browsers have the same function. For me not having English as my first language, I still do gramatical errors though.
