James, thanks for bringing this topic up again. Do you know if there is a written procedure that describes the proper way to perform a dilation? I had surgery in 2008 and have had 6 bladder neck stricture dilations. All but the last went off without a hitch. Looking back it seems as if the procedures varied a little each time (especially the amount of lubricant used). The last time caused more problems than it fixed and almost sent me to the emergency room with a badly swollen and blocked urethra. I will definitely change uros if I have to do it again. I'm not sure what to ask when I start doctor shopping again.

Well at least you are catching it in the early stages while the catheter still works.
In my case I was telling the Dr it felt like the stricture was coming back after 2 weeks and he was saying no it's just healing that's taking place.

The Catheter that I'm using is a Balloon Dilation Catheter which does not seem to be popular in the USA?

I had my follow up Uro app and he recommends daily balloon dialation over a 1 year period for bladder neck stricture.
Mentioned that any further surgery would be serious as he already cut close to the sphincter.
The previous 2nd bladder neck stricture surgery also showed a stricture in the urethra.
I did notice that after waiting 3 days for delivery of a new catheter there was more dialation resistance at the 2 stricture points but since then daily dialation is working.
Anyone have experience with dialation over a longer term.

The Balloon dialation catheter costs €220 and according to the manufacturer is not for reuse.
