how does one differentiate between prostate cancer and prostatitis?

it is 6 months that i have persistent lower back pain, frequent urination.
No infection in urine test.
As far as I know, lower back-pain and frequent urination are also symptoms of prostate cancer.
I am scared since i have persistent back pain.
I am 37 years old male. Dr told me prostatitis, but i doubt it.
My ultasoud and rectal exam was normal.

back pain only shows up in late stage, metastasizing prostate cancer. At 37, your odds of having prostate cancer are really, really low. At a level when you'd have back pain, it's nearly nil.

Trust your doctor.

Has he put you on antibiotics?

Did you have psa tests? Psa tends to spike up and down with prostatitis and rise slowly, but consistently with cancer.
Very uncommon to have any symptoms with PC until very late stages. At 37 very improbable you have late stage PC as it takes decades to develop.

Just Man,

There is almost no chance that a young guy like you has prostate cancer that is sufficiently advanced to cause the symptoms you describe. Prostate cancer only causes pain when it has spread to the bones and is quite advanced. That takes years and it is very unusual in a man less than 50 (and almost unheard of in men less than 40).

You may have prostatitis -- an infection or some sort of inflammation -- but it is probably not cancer. You might want to talk to a urologist about it. Prostatitis can be difficult to treat and a urologist is more likely to know how to deal with it than is your primary care physician.

Dear all,

my psa variation over 6 months: 1.7, 1.87, 2.6, 1.51.
In the test before the value of 2.6, i *********d the night before.
1.51 was after I used some antibiotics for 5 days.

when i tell my urologists the prostate cancer possibility, they say do not worry, it is not.
but back-pain is making me worried.
I have minimal disc bulging at L5 and do not know if that may be the cause.
but in general, when i have biurning in urination, i have lower back pain aslo.

Burning urine is a sign of infection.
for the back pain you should see an orthopedic doctor to have it diagnosed.

You got something, but it isn't cancer.

I checked your previous posts. Every time you post the same question and universally get the same answer. Not only from us - we're just random folks on the internet - but from your urologists. Why are you trying so desperately to find any agreement that it may be cancer? You won't find that agreement from anyone but a quack or con-man trying to get money out of you. This cancer-anxiety is something you may want to explore with a psychotherapist, which I wholeheartedly endorse, having done so myself.

because the urologists did not solve my problem and they cannot explain why i have
back pain. let me tell what they do: prescribe the same antibiotics, which i used many times
without any improvement.
i am taking physical therapy for my back pain and no improvement again.
in my mri, there is minimal bulging, not sure if that is the cause of my symptoms.
by the way, most urologists are stupids: i have been to 10 of them.
I had blood in urine and i had a 5 mm kidney stone and half of them said this kidney stone
is not the cause of blood in urine. then, i had swl and broke the stone and now no blood in urine!

Prostatitis is often difficult if not impossible to cure. That doesn't make urologists "stupids," it just means you'll have to deal with it as a chronic problem that you'll have to cope with symptomatically.

My last for PSA where 7, 5.1, 9, and 10.4. I had a biopsy done on December 18 and it came back negative but I am still a Gleason 6. Just _man have you had a biopsy done? What do other members do when they have high PSA's but no cancer?

no biopsy because they do it when you are above 40 years old and when psa is greater than 4.
my last psa value was 1.51.
