Tim, as i mentioned in the other thread, i am a poster boy for high anxiety over PSA and Prostate Cancer. I addressed the issue by seeing a professional. After a few weeks or months of us meeting and talking, A few things he said to me were helfpul, and might be things for you to think about, as you go through the important process of getting to the bottom of your physical problem, which is likely to NOT be cancer....
What is the specific benefit you think you get from worrying about what might happen?
Do you think that by worrying, then if something did happen that was bad, you would handle it more easily, be more prepared for bad news?
What if you did get bad news? Isn't it likely, that as tough a pill as it might be to swallow, you'll handle it? And won't die from it?
What value is there in wasting precious moments of life worrying about something that might not happen?
Allen is right, consider mindfullness training. If you have a smartphone, download an app called Headspace. It will teach you to meditate, live in the moment, its relaxing.
Try to deal with things as they come. Doing otherwise won't help, or change anything.
I know its easier to say. I still get crazy at certain times, especially leading up to PSA tests. But i've learned to handle it. It takes work. Focus. But you have to do it, this is no way to live, being anxious all the time.
Thank you for the reply. I will do what you are saying. It's 4am and here I am on my phone. I do need some help. I'm sorry to sound foolish,, it just feels like the world is closing in on me at times.
Thank you for listening.
Tim
