Post da Vinci robotic surgery after effects -is this normal? Pls rd

Hi Joyce, I hope everything went well with the surgery for your husband. My testicles grew quite large a couple of days or so after surgery. It surprised me as well but we were assured it was very common. There was no real pain with them just a lot of discomfort, esp. with walking. Believe it or not, when they got large the Drs/nurses suggested that I elevate them when lying down with a small folded up hand towel, I was told not to ice them nor worry about them. It took about 2 weeks for them to return to normal size. They got freakishly large so your husbands may just be getting started.
I also had numbness in my inner thigh near the groin area, and the Drs. told me that during the surgery some nerves in those areas can be cut and damaged but it is nothing to worry about and the sensation will return. They were correct. If his numbness is on the outer thigh I am not sure if the reason is similar.
Best of luck, the first week was not a lot of fun for me because of some of these type of odd things that would come up, but the time passes and it does get better.....Jim

Hello, My surgery was in October and I did not have any numbness. However both of my testicles were enlarged. After a week and two they did return to normal. The next several weeks and months will have up and downs and your hubby will need your support. Talk to the doc about the numbness and have him start doing his kegels and progress will come. It just takes time

Joyce, it's all part of the process. Some patients also wind up with bruising and sore shoulders (!), from the straps they use to tie the patient to the table before they tilt it (head down). It's not pleasant, but it passes. Hang in there. Get him out the chair every hour to walk around the house.

I don't remember any numbness. A bruise the size of a beach ball wrapped around my left hip. (Among other places).

The doctor on call would ease you mind. I called so much I think they worried when I didn't.

They actually offered (or gave me) some type of 'sling' to help hold them up some (maybe before? &) after the catheter was removed, but I never tried it because I was leaking so much and with wearing the diaper and then eventually the diaper and pad I could not figure out how to use it without getting it wet or just having everything too bulky down there. And God knows with the swollen testicles things were bulky enough, lol.

I'm glad we took pictures because now it is just a funny memory for us. Believe it or not, we covered up what was left of the penis and took pictures and I actually sent 1 or 2 to my brothers and sisters and select friends just because I had never seen anything like it. I come from a little bit of a crazy humor type family so everyone took it well and the swollen ball jokes went on for a couple of weeks. Of course I always had the excuse that I was on painkillers and wasn't thinking clearly when I sent them. I did send a warning first as to what they were about to receive so they could delete if they wanted too. I am number 5 out of 7 children in my family so they have come to expect a little bit of NUTTINESS from their younger brother. Not usually to that degree though, lol.....Jim

Sorry to hear that you and your husband are going through this, but welcome to the club.

My DaVinci surgery was 12/17/15, and someone here posted about having two ruby reds between his legs... that was about the size of them for about two weeks. I had my catheter for 18 days, over the holidays. I was never so happy to see the doc and have it pulled.

He'll get better every day. Some days, it won't be noticeable, and others you'll both be amazed at the progress.

Hang in there. We're all in this fight together.

My swelling was extreme. I couldn't find where the cath tube went it. (I know that sounds like a joke, but it isn't). It took a couple of days to settle.
