Hello All,tomorrow I will be going in for CyberKnife/simulation.I was informed at the implant session last week that they use a cathather during the MRI/CT scans.Geez.They say start to finish in about 4 hrs.We expect heavy snow in the Chicago area tomorrow.Just what I needed .

Hello All,No Tall Allen I would of quit if they had to do that.I just came home.4 hours from start to finish.All 4 hrs with the cathater in little willie..First the CT scan with the cath. Then a 3T MRI with the cath in.They will not use a cath during the 5 sessions of SBRT. They also do not use a rectal balloon.And there is no cradle or any positioning method.You lay still and cross your fingers and toes and say a Hail Mary.We will start within a week with every other day of SBRT.A relief to get this simulation over with.I hate when they have to shove a straw down my little willie.Geez

Hopefully, it will help them create a plan with better urethral sparing, which may help minimize urinary SEs.

Sorry to hear what sounds like an unexpected part of your treatment. I wonder if Dr King uses a catheter during the scanning prep and/or during simulation? I guess I'll ask his office directly.

Sorry about the catheter. I was cathed during both of my HDB sessions the past two weeks as well so I know what you mean. I was cathed for cystoscopy and my bladder was ballooned during the treatments. My bladder was also irrigated before removing the catheter to help remove any blood clots and to insert about 100 cc of solution to help me pee during recovery.

Definitely an uncomfortable removal process! ;-)

Hitch Hiker,I feel for you Brother.I had a cath about 1 month ago for a volumn study when I was thinking about LDB.The nurse put a swab of numb on the tip then put in the cath.,instant pain,but over in 5 seconds.When she pulled it out 1/2 hour later didnt feel nothin.Went home no pain when P-ing no blood all good.Even had a few beers to celebrate.You can see it dont take much for me to celebrate.A true milestone.

Then the fiducials,not enjoyable.Then yesterday,the cath.They had 2 swabs red colored,big enough to clean the barrel on my M-14.After that One tech holding little willie and the RO on staff says this next step might hurt.He did not lie.Looked like a big syringe filled with a clear jell that was to numb the shaft.Jesus H Christ.OUCH.He says we will wait 4 minuets to numb and then put the straw in..That pain was just as bad.I dont get it.And today it hurts like hell when I P.Does everyone get this same pain as I did.But my first cath no problem. They better put me under next time.

I know it's not funny 03 but anytime any medical person says "this might hurt" that means "hold on to your freakin' hat". LOL

It was so nice meeting you and chatting during our long lunch.

I've been enjoying my vacation.
Despite having two doctor appointments, I was able to mentally make this a PC-free vacation.

We go home to Michigan tomorrow. They are finishing up a miserable snowstorm (12 inches in last 24 hours).

I will then have to think about what Dr. King and Dr. Lam said

Weird how the first and second catheter experience you had were so different. I had a good buddy who had a cystoscopy about two weeks before I had my first implant, and he had the numbing agent delivered via a big syringe and I remember him saying just the injection was a major wake up call. Then the scope insertion once he was numb, went fine, and the pull out wasn't bad either. He did have major peeing of razor blades for several days after that though. I guess to each his own eh?

All I can say is the peeing razor blades only lasted a day or so after my first catheter so let's hope the same goes for you brother! Hang in there! cool

Does not sound like a fun experience.

No catheter used for my SBRT simulation at the Cleveland clinic. Grateful for that.

No catheter at Georgetown U Hosp either for CK (Dr Collins et al), at least in 2013.

No catheter used by Dr. Katz at Flushing Radiation either.

nor at UCSF with Dr. Gottschalk. They also don't use a rectal balloon or a cradle during treatment.
