Another Warrior has lost the Battle 3/10/2016

My heart is broken in a million pieces. My Brave and Courageous husband lost his battle with Metastatic Prostate Cancer on 3/10/2016.
I want to thank all that have posted on this forum. I had gleaned so much information and encouraged by so many stories and journeys through the 3 years we had battle with this disease.
I apologize for not sharing more of our journey. It just seems that anytime we had a hope that a treatment was working it would stop and we were moving on to the next. I think we threw just about every conventional treatment and alternative treatment at it. But in the end the disease was too much for his body to handle.
My husband was so strong and brave through all of it. It was not until the last couple months would anyone even think that he was sick. He was always positive full of hope and belief he would beat this.

I do want to add that the last testing we had done was to test for the BRCA1/2 Gene, as our next arrow in the quiver was LYNPARZA, which had good results for Advanced Prostate Cancer (Originally used for Ovarian Cancer) but even BETTER results with men with the BRCA 1/2 Gene. I would advise any of you with Advanced disease to be tested very early for the BRCA 1/2 Gene. Unfortunately it was too late for my Sweetheart.
The test came back on Friday March 4 that he was positive. Monday they faxed over for Lynparza Approval.
My husband passed a little passed midnight on March 10th. Too late for him, but not for some of you.
I would also like to add my husband did not have really high PSA, 49 at time diagnoses, Nadir came down to .5 after lots of drugs and chemo. Started steadily rising. More drugs, more chemo. But his last PSA in Feb. was only 14.

I know many of you have posted how people will say "What kind of cancer? Prostate... Oh well that's one of the not so bad ones. I beg to differ. Please do not mess around with PSA testing, Keeping abreast of new and upcoming research. Stay in front of this disease and fight with all your might.

You have my thoughts and prayers right now. I admire the courage and grace you are showing, and the fortitude and courage that your husband showed through his battle.

Thank you for all that you did for him. We are all comrades in this battle --- united --- together --- arms locked --- soldiers marching alongside each other --- I'm privileged to walk beside the brave "Battle Brothers" who are personal friends of mine here AND on this website.

Barb --- take comfort in knowing you did all you could, every step of the way. Your husband found peace at the end of the road, and there is tremendous comfort in that.

I hope treasured memories will always be a source of comfort to you, now and in the days ahead. Stay close with your family, friends, and faith ...

In your husband's memory, I will be sending a memorial contribution to a national prostate cancer charity --- whose efforts are dedicated to education, research, advocacy, and future medical breakthroughs.

Dear Barb. Please accept my condolences on your husbands passing. I didn't get to know him, but he was a brother and my heart breaks every time I hear that one of us has lost his battle.

As you know, I followed with great hope the work and the progress as well as the setbacks you and your husband went through during this journey. Although the inevitable outcome may not be in our control, the way we act along the way is. You and your husband reached further than most would have in similar circumstances, and I hope you take pride in the way you both conducted yourselves during the final act of his story. I can see you are still reaching out to help others at this sad time, which says a lot about your character. I share in the sorrow of your loss.

Barb, I'm so sorry to see this. What a terrible loss after such a brave fight - its amazing what courage and strength our men and their partners have. I hope your heart heals with time.

If one stays a member of this forum for very long, it becomes inevitable that from time to time a loved one posts the so regrettable news that their dear one has passed from this disease.

Such news is never easy to hear, but it is so often accompanied, as is so true in your case, by indications that the loved one has been so very courageous, dedicated, loving, and helpful.

We can only offer our words and prayers for you at this time, but we do so in all sincerity.
