A morning in the ER

I wasn't going to post, then I was, then I wasn't, but now I am.

Last Friday morning my older brother (whom I've mentioned here before as getting LDR brachy) was taken to the hospital with extreme hip pain. X-rays and CT scan showed nothing like a broken bone, just some arthritis. He had a hip replacement 11 years ago and now we're wondering if that is going bad.

He has cerebral palsy and a host of other medical problems which complicate the situation.

The ER docs couldn't do anything and decided to send him home with pain meds. We have an appointment with my PCP tomorrow and will be getting a referral to an orthopedic surgeon.

I did a blog post on it last night and now am somewhere between hopeful there is a solution and fearing that nothing can be done.

Sorry to hear this, Andrew. I know that I have a harder time dealing with pain and illness in those I love than dealing with my own.

Andrew, good luck, i hope this gets resolved. The fact that you thought to post about it, makes it clear that it is bothering you, and its great for him to have a brother that really cares.

Andrew: Have friend who had a knee replacement and now has issues due to scar tissue build up. Just a thought and best wishes toward a clear diagnosis.

Those of us here who sit in the PSA waiting room of life value the depth of compassion you share with all the newbies and fellow PCA brothers. Yesterday we finally got my brother in to see an orthopedic doctor last night. My brother say he felt a 'pop' in his hip joint on Monday night and the pain is much reduced and he can put weight on it again.

The doctor did more x-rays and complete exam. His thinking was that some, perhaps scar tissue, got pinched in the joint and was causing the pain. The 'pop' was whatever it was coming out. Seems strange, but we have no other explanation and my brother is doing fine now.

Weird.

Now it's time to focus on the little vacation I am taking next week.
