docetaxel and carboplatin

First I would like to say welcome to HW! You will get a lot of good information here about treatment and side effects.
Most guys here create a "signature" that provides a little information about Gleason score, scan results, PSA, etc. You can go to "my profile" to create that.
The carboplatin and docetaxil combo will likely have similar side effects of single tx you have been receiving.
How long were you on docetaxil alone?
The platinum based therapies are used to treat either identified or potential cancer cells that have mutated to be what is called neuroendocrine cancer, which is typically more aggressive and puts out less PSA. So I would think that if your PSA continues to rise and you don't know if you have that mutation for sure there may be better options to ask your medonc about, like zytiga. Hard to say without more info from you..but others with more knowledge will be along shortly, I'm sure. If you feel comfortable doing so, tell us a bit more about you.

I have also been on ZOLADEX injections, Taxotere chemotherapy infusions, and ZYTIGA --- all of these cross over with your treatment experiences.

You asked about side effects for chemotherapy treatments --- I realize you are pursuing a cocktail blend of chemotherapy that also includes carboplatin components.

Jevtana (cabazitaxel) is specifically meant for use when Taxotere fails. But if the platin works, that's great.

I am about to start the docetaxil/carboplatin cocktail next week within 2 months of initial diagnosis. Cyclone fan makes a good suggestion about looking at the taxotere side effects thread. I plan to post there as I go through my regimen, so you can see my experience. From what I hear, not much difference in the side effects with the combination, although more nausea risk with the carboplatin. We shall see.

Hang in there. This is a great site for information.

My dad has been on taxol/carbo cocktail since the first of February. He gets a dose every Friday 3 weeks on one week off. PSAwas at about 2000 when started this treatment and this week it was down to about 365. His side effect are burning in his feet and hands. No nausea to report. The treatment just seem to effect people differently. Best wishes to all!
