Dad's Day 5K Run in Houston

Today I ran my second Dad's Day 5K run as a survivor. All proceeds go to prostate cancer research and many were there from MD Anderson here in Houston. Previously I would run this in honor of my dad and grandfather who both had prostate cancer. Now I run it with my son. My time today was 29:45, not my best time, but it was hot and humid in Houston - at least that is what I tell myself! :-)
All runners get a bib where they can honor someone and survivors get on that says survivor. Several people came up to me today just to say hi and that they were either starting the process or had someone that was. A great time to spend with my son!

Happy to hear you made it to the event. I completely forgot about it. Assume you ran one downtown starting around 6:30. And yes, I can agree with you about the heat and humidity.

Unfortunately it starts at 8, so temperature is on the rise at that time. It is the one at the Wortham Arch in the theater district.

Nice Jay. Enjoying the day with your son, while helping the cause.

Last year, for my birthday, my daughter bought me entry with her to the Zero Prostate Cancer 5K , in NYC, and we "ran" it together, it was a great gift. She a marathon runner, and she knows how I would love to run the NYC marathon with her, but my knees won't let me. So this was a thoughtful gift

Very respectable time...630...800...Houston is hot/humid...you need a snorkel to run fast in that city..

Great to hear about this - a good run with your son for charity!

At just shy of two weeks post RARP, I can't wait to start running again. Four more weeks?

I run about 1,000 miles a year (that is my goal) and I was back to jogging very slowly after 3 weeks - with my URO's permission. Since I usually go about 20 miles a week and had no problems after surgery, I was able to walk a couple of miles once the catheter came out and started jogging very, very slowly one day. I was told to listen to my body, so that was what I did. After I ran my first mile - post surgery - I think I came back home and slept for about 3 hours! Take it bit by bit, you will know when you feel up to it or not. I had just retired from being a principal (a great retirement gift - having surgery LOL) so I had all of the time I needed to take care of me.

Congrats on your race. That is good results for Houston heat and humidity.

I am volunteering with the Zero Cancer walk/run in September in Hollywood, FL.
It will be hot here in So. Florida also but it will be held on the boardwalk along the beach so it makes it real fun to sweat.

Prostate Cancer walks and runs are great ways to get the word out, meet other survivors and newbees,
I did my first race 6 weeks after surgery 4 years ago and have participated in 8 races. This will be my first as a volunteer. I couldn't believe that 2 ladies were putting it all together without the help from a PCa survivor. They were happy to have me join with them.
