The question of how do you assign value to a human life...
halbert, I hope that you will make a clarifying note that in my earlier comment there was no assignment of
value to a human life. This type of conversation does take place out there somewhere, but it was not part of my comment at all...it's way too controversial and difficult to reach agreement upon. LSY, on the other hand, is quite a simple, straightforward, un-controversial, fact-based calculation...the cost of treatment divided by the life extension.
Obviously, the life extension is well-documented in the study used for FDA approval, and it considers the population, not individual anecdotal cases. The fact is that in anecdotal cases, such as our friend Todd's, we have no idea whatsoever whether there was any affect at all...we only know what it does for the population; and specifically a population that was not on combination therapies. Association is not causation.
compiler, if you can't accept me for who I am, then it is, I believe, your problem & perhaps your loss. I'll just point out that it's not my posts which get edited by the moderators.
