Infohound,
Thank you for asking. I wish I had had done more research first. I will post an update about
Gary in a new thread. He has had 10 rounds with very little SEs but it seems to be failing now :(
His MO has finally ordered an echocardiogram, but he has no baseline! So it's good your DH is getting one. It does not require any stress test. It measures the amount of blood the lower chamber squeezes out. It should be above 50 percent but probably won't be higher than 70. His hx will likely not matter, because that's a different part of the heart and its only the lower chamber that could be affected by the tx. The infusion takes 15 min. and the SEs are usually very minimal. The stuff is neon blue (not kidding) and turns urine green for a day. Other than monitoring for heart damage, it seems worth a try, IMHO. We didn't hold out much hope for success and we were pleasantly surprised. Gary's psa did have an uptick before going downward. Our MO said the heart SEs were cumulative and that we shouldn't worry about
heart problems until 10 rounds were administered. But I do wish he'd done a test to measure against!
Best wishes going forward. Let me know how it works out.
Beth
