Hello guys & gals, I just wanted to comment on the VA subject. My husband has regular Medicare & a supplemental policy thru AARP. Because he is over 65 the supplemental ins picks up his yearly Medicare deductibles. We live in Tx & not all supplemental ins is available in every state.
In addition to the above he is a disabled vet with a 100% disability. When he was dx'd with diabetes his 2 different insulins were very expensive, over $1500 a month. He hit the donut hole real fast. He went to the VA with all of his meds, saw a dr there & they provide all of his medications at no cost. What a life saver this has been for us. All he has to do is see the VA dr once a year to keep his scripts going. When he is given a new script the dr writes out 2, one for us to fill immediately if needed. He then makes an appt with the VA dr & gives her the 2nd script. Granted his situation is different from a medical standpoint. The VA does bill Medicare for the office visits & Medicare pays them. We are both on regular Medicare with supplemental ins. We like not being limited to drs strictly on an advantage plan. We both have lots of medical issues & prefer staying with the same specialists that has treated us several yrs. The supplemental is not cheap, currently its around $647 a month for both of us. It goes up every 6 months.
I hope this helps someone. I read a lot in these forums & I think this forum has to be the very best one around. The info that the members share & the camaraderie is truly amazing.
