Hi Everyone. I am always reading about
the above well-regarded Medico's supplements protocol for men with PCa. However nobody actually lists the details, apart from a few random items, such as turmeric, pomegranate or metformin etc.
I'm wondering whether anyone could actually list the supplements/meds Dr Myers recommends (in detail), as I would love to ensure they are part of GG's diet, going forward.
Appreciate any/all advice on the subject.
Thanks so much.

My recollection, I don't see Myers, is a Mediterranean diet, turmeric,
baby aspirin maybe, metformin, a statin for cholesterol and inflammation.
Dr Ornish did an early trial and seemed to get results on a vegetarian diet.
Good luck.

I'm pretty good at following these, except for the no coffee recommendation. Other recommendations say to drink lots of coffee, so who knows?

Someone I know is using this protocol from Dr. Myers. He cautioned me that Dr. Meyers told him that this was designed for him and is not necessarily what he prescribes (supplement-wise) for everybody.
Biocurcumin 400 mg 2 tablets at bedtime
Calcium 500 mg 2 tablets - once a day
Fish Oil 4000 mg 2 tablets – 2x per day
Lyc
opene 10 mg 1 tablet – 3x per day
Magnesium 400 mg Part of Calcium tablet
Melatonin 3 mg Liquid form (Sleep aid)
Pomegranate 400 mg 2 tablets – 2x per day
Resveratrol 500 mg 1 tablet per day
Vitamin D3 10,000 IU 2 tablets per day

Dr Myers made this
great comment
in a December 2010 PAACT article (http://www.paactusa.org/):
"I do find it amazing that many patients and even cancer physicians do not understand the basics of a healthy diet."
See the current thread on how diet affects overall survival in PC patients...

Thank you so much everyone - I really appreciate it! Can't imagine GG giving up his coffee either (just for the record). Or his red wine, come to think of it...! Anyway... baby steps! Enjoy your weekends, Jaybee.

What myers laid for me was similar to what is described above (this was in 2012)
- lyc
opene
- vitamin D (I tested as deficient, you can get this test done)
- resveratrol
- statin (I was already on this)
- curcumin
- pom extract
- avodart --> this to him was an essential part of the mix, but of course it is not a supplement. This part is very controversial if you talk to other docs.
he did not advise calcium, magnesium or melatonin in my case. he said metformin is useful in a pt who is overweight but not otherwise. However, in the past couple years there was a published research report on metformin which did not find it helpful at a statistically significant level, in delaying progression. But this report was not out at the time I saw Myers.
he did not wave me off coffee. he is a big proponent of mediterranean diet saying this is the only thing that has proven to extend life. In particular, for a patient on antiandrogen there is a significantly elevated risk of cardiovascular problems, and prostate cancer patients on ADT are more likely to die of heart attack or stroke than die of PC. So of course the mediterranean diet is good for that too.
OTOH Ornish found strong protective value in a diet that is essentially vegetarian, in conjunction with exercise, stress reduction, meditation. There is a respectable published research report on this co-authored with Peter Carroll at UCSF. And Mark Scholz a respected med onc, says he's seen a lot of patients improve on a diet that is close to macrobiotic, but that is a very difficult diet to comply with.

I think it may have been in his metformin video, some time back but certainly after your 2012 reference, that Myers said he takes 1000 mg/day himself, and he is fairly slender.
