A friend psa has went from .029 to .037 in 6 months

I have a friend whos had his prostate taken out a year ago and his psa went up to .037 from .029 in 6 months! Is this cause for concern? thanks

Probably not... But another test in 3 to 6 months would be a good idea.

Maybe, maybe not. What was his post-op gleason?

A retest would be good, but if it goes up, it will be time to a conversation with the doc.

It was a 9 on biopsy but after they got it out it was a 7.

This could be a start of a trend but could also be just "noice". Only further tests will tell.

Not enough information...getting information first hand is hard enough to get details that matter...getting information second hand?...feggit about it...EX, you mention his psa went from .03 to .04{basically} in 6 months...then you say the psa was 9 on biopsy...then 7 after "they got it out"...something happened in between. Any advise you have gotten so far is meaningless as they don't know what happened in between...and I suspect neither do you...see what I mean when I say second hand info...kinda like the game of one whispering in someone elses ear...who then whispers in someone elses ear and so on...the first whisper will bear little resemblance to the last... Have your friend join the forum and share " the rest of the story...good day! "

It depends on whether he had adverse pathology. If not, that's a very small fluctuation and only needs monitoring for now.

That's quite a correction- 10 x higher! Yes, he should have been talking to a radiation oncologist well before his PSA reached 0.29! He ought to act quickly on this.

My friend starts his radiation tomorrow. Will be doing radiation daily for 2 months in pelvic area!
